Neutrality[edit]

Raj ji did so many good things and many people are talking about negative things but not about his vision. some people only opposing him by not knowing fats. First check reality and support his vision for better Maharshtra..better India..

This biography has a heavy negative bias. A more neutral point of view is required. It may be required to completely rewrite this article. Geeteshgadkari (talk) 19:19, 19 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Why do u feel so? are u from MNS? It is as neutral as it can be!!! This article is about truth and truth is always neutral.......... Satyamev jayate!! Amar Kumar 10:16, 4 October 2011 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Amaroks (talkcontribs)

Selecting between RT and MNS entries[edit]

The Bollywood blowup has gotten up to the state government.

http://www.zimbio.com/pilot?ID=hTwSFCN2Bn4&ZURL=%2FBollywood%2BMovies%2Fnews%2F3xwZoVb-KYO%2FBig%2BB%2Bcomes%2Bto%2BJaya%2Bs%2Bdefence&URL=http%3A%2F%2Fstory.indiagazette.com%2Findex.php%2Fct%2F9%2Fcid%2F701ee96610c884a6%2Fid%2F404387%2Fcs%2F1%2F

I think this one belongs to Raj himself, because he doesn't have crowds of rioters in the streets over this yet.

When he does lead a mob to tear down Bollywood then it would be suitable for the MNS article, right? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Hcobb (talkcontribs) 14:38, 13 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think the current article's comment of "anti marathi comments" is a bit strong and should be either changed to alleged or expanded to show the full picture.

Hcobb (talk) 11:24, 7 October 2008 (UTC) What Raj Thackeray is doing is absolutely wrong, you can't beat up and injure people because they can't speak marathi. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 123.252.199.250 (talk) 12:46, 22 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image[edit]

Image is perfectly suitable for this bio article. This article lacks images and this image is just adding to the text. It has passed flickr review and acceptable from point of licensing. I think if it goes with a NPOV caption then no need to object its addition. --GPPande talk! 20:46, 5 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I dont agree. I have a feeling this article is getting biased against Raj. There is not even a single picture of him but a protest image. The only well cited and well written section is controversy section. The contents in controversy section is more than the rest of the article. Docku: What up? 19:26, 6 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I have tried hard to get a free licensed picture of Raj. Flickr has many many good quality pictures of Raj uploaded by an account but all are copyrighted. Also, I tried to ask the Flickr user to release them in PD but no response. Also, I do not see what is wrong adding this image to the article considering NPOV policy. I understand there is some bias against Raj in the article but information about his good work is not available on internet. See, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena article – a picture of MNS supporters condoling the act of terror is present. So it is not that I am playing one sided here. I would be glad to add some positive information of Raj; if I find some. --GPPande talk! 19:38, 6 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That is probably true. I am not accusing you or anyone of bias. Bias in articles can happen involuntarily. He probably hasnt done anything good. I just dont know. I am just saying that let us not overwhelm the article with criticism. If u dont agree, well and good. Docku: What up? 19:41, 6 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I wonder if he did anything good to atleast Marathis (after all that why he said he started his party). Such information, if any, should be available in Marathi newspapers. Docku: What up? 19:51, 6 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Good idea. I would try to search Sakaal - it is a reputed Marathi newspaper in Western Maharashtra. --GPPande talk! 19:57, 6 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Tell me one politician who is not after wealth or "Audi car". Raj is no exception. This picture is blatant WP:UNDUE violation. Docku: What up? 20:32, 6 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
See, I am not going to be a lawyer here to read out policies. My rational was simple. Article lacks image, this image is relevant to the article as it depicts public demonstration against Raj after 26/11 attacks just like many other politicians. If you can find some good image to replace this I would be glad to remove this one and make room. For example: the MNS flag on this article is also made by me alone. So all I am trying to say is - add relevant freely available images to make the article better. We are building an encyclopedia here and not working for or against Raj Thackeray. Simple! --GPPande talk! 20:48, 6 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I wouldnt just add anything because the article lacks image. Docku: What up? 21:24, 6 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
This image is not just "anything" - its relevant. --GPPande talk! 21:27, 6 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The article has a total of about 1200 words, of which about 730 are just criticism. It has two pictures, one is the picture of his party flag and other a group of guys protesting him for the terrorist attack happened in Mumbai. relevance, WP:NPOV and WP:UNDUE? You decide. Docku: What up? 21:39, 6 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Just because we need to make up a balance between good and bad does not mean we need to make up or hide things. Nor does it mean that unless we add a sentence on good work we should not add one on bad work either. It is all based on what comes our way in form of reliable sources. NPOV clause is met as long as it is written in terms of stating the fact and not to make up things based on what is reported. NPOV is also met in terms of images (both uploaded by me). But I would say, making of MNS flag does not make me a supporter of MNS and putting up the banner image does not make me anti-Raj. For WP:UNDUE I have stated above twice - the image is relevant as it denotes public response towards Raj's movement. --GPPande talk! 21:57, 6 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

<unindent> Common man cannot raise questions like "how much does your audi cost or where are u Raj??" during such dreadful terror attacks....it doesn't make any sense....that banner holding people are either purposefully there to spread hatred against Mr.Raj thackeray rather than taking part in the "candle march" for those who have suffered in the terror attacks....those Raj phobic people must know that gag orders were issued on Mr.Raj Thackeray by Mumbai police department for two months starting from 20th October and ending on 27th december. Mr.Raj Thackeray was banned from addressing a press or public gathering, or carrying out any procession during this period. for reference-->http://www.thaindian.com/newsportal/india-news/mumbai-police-issues-gag-order-against-raj-thackeray_100109820.html.this makes clear why Mr.Raj Thackeray was noticeably quiet during those terror attacks. well as specifically for that image,it isn't depicting any kind of public response.just some few persons holding anti-raj banner and asking "how much your audi cost Raj?"-- does it make any sense of public response??? those persons holding those banner are either from some anti-raj political group or are the "followers" of the todays biased, desperate and immatured electronic media who has been consistently talking against Mr.Raj Thackeray. these electronic media never showed the ambulances and blood donation camps arranged by MNS durng the terror attacks. and finally what those banner holding people are expecting during such situation, like BJP leaders politicing the issue, should all others do the same.was that the time to indulge in politics.shame on those BJP leaders. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Royalrocks (talkcontribs) 03:19, 19 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Read WP:NPOV. Your patronization is not a valid argument to remove the image. Read the above thread for most specific reasons. If you could procure a free licensed image of Raj or any other image which is significant from a bio perspective - please do replace this one at that time. Your constructive edits are welcome. --GPPande 12:51, 19 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
alright will replace that image with some good sensible images i have got. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Royalrocks (talkcontribs)
Thanks buddy. Articles from this topic really need good images. There is a lot of up-to-date information present but extreme shortage of good free license images. Please upload them on Wikimedia Commons with CC-BY-SA license if you have them under your copyright. We can link them on WP. Let me know if you face any problem with licensing or uploading them. --GPPande 18:11, 19 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Also please do sign your posts on talkpages as per WP:Signature so that we can identify who has left the message. --GPPande 18:15, 19 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
GPP: I assume your argument is that the inclusion of protest image is because of the unavailability of any other image of Raj Thackeray. If so, it doesnt sound logical to me. Docku: What up? 18:46, 19 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
After a long discussion and convincing you my stand not just by words but by actions also - you have popped up the same question again. I am fed up of this nagging around. I have nominated the image for deletion on Commons - Enjoy! --GPPande 20:04, 19 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry if it sounded nagging. I was never convinced. I just kept quiet because I didnt find any sense in arguing further since we stood on diametrically opposite sides and just brought this up again as another user appears to share my opinion as well. Thanks for the deletion nomination and appreciate your early efforts to balance the article. Docku: What up? 20:10, 19 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Biased media[edit]

I am wondering why this was removed. I dont know much about Merinews. Is it because it is an unreliable source? Ironically, that was the only positive information about him. Docku: What up? 22:00, 6 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think it was written in a very bad style and so removed by KHP2. As of the news here is a reliable source. But the information should go into MNS article and not here. --GPPande talk! 22:16, 6 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

wow. you could include image of protest here but not word of praise. Docku: What up? 22:23, 6 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Right. Reason being - blood donation was done by MNS supporters and so should go into the MNS article. Had Raj himself done it then it would go into the bio article. --GPPande talk! 22:28, 6 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
But you wouldnt mind adding a protest image by a group of guys against terrorism not commited by him? I guess I will post it in WP:BLP/N. Docku: What up? 22:39, 6 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Posted at BLP/N. Pls see here. Thanks. Docku: What up? 23:07, 6 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
As per the issue raised by you in above thread; after a hard days work; I could add these 3 sentences. See here. I would search for more. --GPPande talk! 16:11, 7 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks GPP. I never doubted your intentions and apologise if that is how it came across. apparently, he hasnt done much. Docku: What up? 16:16, 7 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No problem and no apologies needed. I think the article needs a thorough copy-edit before more objections are raised. --GPPande talk! 16:23, 7 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Clarification:The edit was reverted as "vandalism" for removal of the image. Well merinews.com is not reliable as anyone can post their news there (citizen journalism). Gppande's Indian Express reference is reliable --KnowledgeHegemonyPart2 12:38, 19 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds reasonable to me. I didnt know that info about merinews. Docku: What up? 18:41, 19 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

attack on North Indians[edit]

I am proposing to shorten this section. Suggestions? Docku: What up? 19:07, 7 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

We already have a GA for it. See 2008 attacks on North Indians in Maharashtra. Only relevant information from this GA article that suits this bio article should be here. --GPPande talk! 19:15, 7 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Details and references can be curtailed as the section will be linked to the main article. I will work on it whenever i get time, pls do so as well. Thanks. Docku: What up? 20:05, 7 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"Regionalism: 2008 violence against North Indians" sounds too much like a POV. Some one with knowledge about this incidents, kindly edit it. --122.164.250.33 (talk) 11:44, 14 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ramesh Kini[edit]

well, the case was dismissed as suicide. clearly, he is not involved in the case (as per CBI), but is nevertheless a controversy. Accusation and charges of crimes against political enemies in India is a way of life and not uncommon, listing such unproven and dismissed accusations unless it had received extraordinary public attention and besmirched his reputation in that process is WP:UNDUE. Docku: What up? 17:22, 21 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This is what I could gather-

  1. Sainiks were disenchanted with Raj during the second half of the 1990s, when his name was embroiled in many controversies like the Ramesh Kini case and the Michael Jackson concert to raise funds for the Shiv Udyog Sena, which also turned out to be a failed experiment.[1]
  1. "I cannot believe he (Raj) could stoop so low. At a time when he was facing murder charges in the (Ramesh) Kini case, it was Shiv Sena and (cousin) Uddhav which stood by him, but today the same Raj is accusing the Thackeray family of trying to kill him, which is unfortunate," the 80-year-old Sena patriarch (Bal Thackeray) said in a sharp retort in the Sena mouthpiece, 'Saamna'.[2]

Image of Raj from MNS website.[edit]

royalrocks (talk · contribs) has uploaded a photo of Raj (mostly from MNS website). User has mentioned fair use rational in crude form (which can fixed, no issues). In all probability it would be deleted by some hawk looking for such images to be eaten out. If we can use the similar rational as can be seen on File:Natalee_Holloway_yearbook_photo.jpg it can be saved. I think this article, MNS article and the GA article needs this image badly. Comments? --GPPande 18:48, 27 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Possibly, but this point doesn't apply :

  • the image subject is missing/presumed dead and a free use version is unlikely to become available.

There are many images of Raj Thackeray out there, I think its just a matter of time before something is released under a useable license. Anish7 (talk) 21:02, 29 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Although the above topic is referanced, it is not required over here. It should be in MNS' article, since Raj himself didn't attacked Azmi in Parliament. It was the MLAs of MNS. Hope it is alright. Rahul Bobhate (talk) 18:36, 17 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Mumbai-Bombay naming convention[edit]

Mumbai is the official and more widely use name (it is the title of the main WP article; also, search results for "Bombay" mostly turn up references to the High Court, Stock Exchange or IIT). Thus, in the article, "Mumbai" should be used everywhere except in context of the Mumbai-Bombay controversy. I request editors not to find->replace any name as it affects reference URLs.

Cleanup tag April 2014[edit]

This article has way too many subsections detailing each and every event associated with him. The criticism section is even worse. For example, I don't see how "Support for Modi" deserves a mention or even a separate subsection here. At most, that should go to some 2014 election-related article, or made into just a single statement. I otherwise don't see how this belongs to this biography.

This article needs to be rewritten and organised better, at most I can think of just three main sections. There also a lot of content which can be trimmed since it's WP:UNDUE and WP:RECENT. -Ugog Nizdast (talk) 19:19, 20 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
