Introduction about success[edit]

@Ravensfire If there is sources already added then why to remove. please explain Themodifie7 (talk) 18:04, 7 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Most of the time, you shouldn't need sources in the lead when the article body has that information and is sourced. When it's material that gets challenged often (even with good sources in the article body), sources in the lead can be needed. The WP:CITELEAD page has more. Improving the lead[edit]

I'm looking through the lead, and there's some opportunities for rewriting to improve the focus. Remember, the lead is a summary. For example, "Started career as a film editor after passing out from FTII in editing, bad experience forced him to shift in ad films, he made several successful ads. He edited first film as a professional editor to Vidhu Vinod Chopra's Mission Kashmir (2000). Although he wanted to make films, took one year break and came back with Munna Bhai MBBS script to Chopra to help him for financing it. Chopra decided to produce himself. The film released in 2003 and became widespread critical and commercial success. It won the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment and the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Film, and earned Hirani his first Filmfare Award for Best Screenplay and a nomination for the Best Director." is way too detailed for the lead.

Compare to "After graduating with a degree in film editing, Hirani started in working movies, then moved to advertising, eventually as a director and producer. He then returned to movies as a film editor, before he wrote, directed and edited Munna Bhai MBBS which released in 2003. The film won the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment and the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Film and the Filmfare Award for Best Screenplay and earned the first of his five nominations for the Filmfare Award for Best Director."

The same major pieces of information are there, but the excess details are gone. The focus is now on the really important parts. Started in film, left for advertising, returned to film and then wrote, directed and edited Munna Bhai MBBS which earned XYZ awards and noting the nomination for best director because it was the first of 5. Look at Bradley Cooper which is a featured article (considered one of the best on Wikipedia), especially how it handles A Star Is Born which was his directorial debut. Look at the lead overall, its' about 5 lines longer for a person with a significantly more substantial body of work.

Leads should summarize the major points of the article - they are a high-level introduction to the subject, the main bullet points of why the reader should care about this person. Ravensfire (talk) 19:24, 7 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Lack of sources[edit]

There a substantial problem with a lack of sources in the article. Two of the key sections "Directorial debut and initial success (2003–09)" and "Widespread success (2009–present)" have a grand total of ONE source between them, and that only to source the release date. IMDB is also used multiple places, and it's not considered a good source for Wikipedia (see the [[WP:CITEIMDB page). I'm adding the BLP sources tag to the article rather that tag bomb all of the unsourced material. Ravensfire (talk) 19:37, 7 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
