Accuracy[edit]

The paragraph about him being out as gay appears to be incorrect or at least incomplete:

He came out as gay to his family in 1979.[1] First elected to Fitzroy Council in 1982 as a Labor Party councillor, he came out publicly as gay during his mayoral campaign in 1984 and won the election.[1]

The Australian Queer Archives today posted an article from one of the gay newspapers in 1982 of McLean talking about his victory as a "declared homosexual". I'm not sure what he did in 1984 but it doesn't appear that he was particularly not-out-publicly as gay in 1982 either. The Drover's Wife (talk) 22:35, 10 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
