Human rights abuses[edit]

Anyone think allegations of human rights abuses merit a section of their own? Nakohifi (talk) 18:50, 29 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Is describing extrajudicial executions, torture and enforced disappearances as "Human rights abuses" instead of "Controversy" a violation of NPOV? I think the last change I made reflected the content of the section better. I am really new to Wikipedia editing, not sure how this kind of disagreement between editors are to be resolved. Casualties[edit]

The number I have for RAB deaths during crossfire is 193 over a period of two years. While the article says "several" were killed after they were arrested, a large number of those killed were not arrested. 137.150.18.203 18:47, 15 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Neutrality + Copyright violations[edit]

This text was based almost entirely on the official website, although the information could not be represented much differently. It seems that the original editor(s) of the article were very Pro-RAB, but the impression I get from various sources is that the RAB has been widely condemned by human rights organisation and the opposition party (Awami League]). The article should be extended to include these critisisms and the successes of the RAB including the arrest of Bangla Bhai. -- Tompsci 04:11, 25 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Almost all the material was a CopyVio and the rest was a hodge-podge of conflicting bias. So I've removed the lot and I will work on it this week, though I'd like a pro-RAB editor to get in on the action. I'm not a "pro/anti" RAB editor ... :), but talking to people back there, and also some news reports give the idea that people in general were happy to see the gangsters taken care of, although definitely, there were innocent people who were executed, and gross violations of human rights that have occurred. OK, getting started on this, I think I'll have to tag it with 'npov' myself, got any sources for the RAB's popularity? I'm mainly using the BBC and Human Rights Organisations, which have no such information. Also I can't read the official website, it being in Bengali :S. Name of RAB[edit]

just a curiosity, is the name RAB intentional (in the sense that it is the same as the arabic rab, i.e. lord)? Has this been discussed in Bangladesh? --Soman 15:10, 30 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

But you are mistaken that these sound similar, because the arabic word sounds like Rob (রব), while RAB is pronounced the same way as Dab. There is no connection between the pronunciations, nor is it ever discussed in any Bangladeshi media. --Ragib 15:50, 30 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Black for Fear[edit]

You forgot to mention that they wear all black to instill fear in the minds of people. Also you should mention that criminals like to dress as RAB men while robbing. Also, I think you should mention that foreign Polices were very pleased when RAB crushed terrorism and our beloved Mrs. Hasina called this brave act a 'drama'. (Nothing new!She was suspicious when the President was ill!)

Forgot? This is not a complete authorative source. However if you provide sources for those statements (see WP:CITE), then I will gladly incorporate them into the article where appropriate. The RAB has not "crushed" terrorism, for years Bangla Bhai operated in Rajshahi and he was left alone. Various members of the BNP and Jamaat alledgedly have links with extremists in and around Bangladesh and a member of the BNP was expelled from the party for speaking out against the JMB. Weapons used by RAB[edit]

Are you sure that the state of Israel is the only manufacturer of this weapon? According to the article Uzi, a Belzian company also manufactures it. --Ragib (talk) 17:00, 26 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Apologies for the delayed response, I cannot say for sure if Israel is the only manufacturer of Uzi however I can confirm RAB do not have Uzi or Uzi replicas in their arsenal. Category:Military units and formations of Bangladesh[edit]

I have removed the Category:Military units and formations of Bangladesh. Although officers and soldiers from the Armed Forces of Bangladesh are deputed to RAB for certain period of time; Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) is a branch of Bangladesh Police just like Armed Police Battalion and not a military unit or military formation.

RAB is under the Ministry of Home Affairs and not Ministry of Defense. The personnel from Armed Forces (Army, Air Force and Navy) are deputed just like Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) or Bangladesh Coast Guard who works alongside members of Bangladesh Police. --Incognito1980 (talk) 17:57, 18 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
