Serious objectivity problems

There are two major problems with this article

1) Some authors have felt the need to put their disgust of using Mercury in medicine in each section. To those authors: This article is not suppose to be your opinion, but a description of what the Rasa Shastra actually states. Please keep the criticism to the criticism section. Moreover, please give citations for the criticisms.

Criticism

I can't begin to even understand this article, but mercury is toxic. There really needs to be a criticism section in this article... what do people think? Also, a mention of this article: http://jama.ama-assn.org/cgi/content/short/300/8/915 Observer31 (talk) 12:12, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

There's a tiny "Disclaimers" link at the bottom of the page. Wikipedia is 100% risky free OK.

I have added a criticism section and have included what I think is a pretty suitable list of references. I have noted in the edit history that some criticism was a bit ... unduly harsh. While I intend to keep an eye on this page to be sure that the criticism section does stay here, let's be civil folks and not go overboard. Observer31 (talk) 01:03, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

I thought I would expand on this a bit - looking at the edit history of the page, I see that someone removed "hateful speech"... and yeah, what was written was very harsh. By writing a more "neutral-toned" critique, it makes it harder to justify removing it.Observer31 (talk) 12:13, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

Deleted material

Samskara or sanskara?

Samskara: A purificatory ceremony or rite marking a major event in one's life. Sanskara: In Hinduism sanskaras (singular: sanskara) (Sanskrit for impression; under the impulse of previous impressions) are the imprints left on the subconscious mind by experience in this or previous lives, which then color all of life, one's nature, responses, states of mind, etc.  Both if these words appear in the article -- not sure if that's correct. To wikipedia : find authentic authors please

A person from USA or any other elsewhere reads something (or a lot thing - as per that person's view) on an indian topic and writes a wikipedia page on that topic --- accepted! after that, when a person comes from india and edits some things which are for the better knowledge of wikipedia readers, and the our foreigner brother undoes the edits and put back those old things written by him --- not accepted!!

When dealing with medical subjects, Wikipedia needs reliable medical sources and avoids fringe viewpoiints without putting them in context. The consensus of evidence based medicine is that mercury and arsenic are poisonous, and that taking them as medicines puts your health in danger. Your removal of the sourced text and replacing it with unsourced naterial that is barely in English. ( And this resulted in the advent of Pottali Kalpana. The Parad Kalpa got divided into 4 clear types: Kalvi Rasayan, Parpati Rasayan, Kupipakva Rasayan and Pottali Rasayan. The concept of trituration of Parad with equal amount of Shodhit Gandhak by weight to form Kajjali, gave a material that was in solid state.) Objectivity and citations

This page is incredibly biased and lacks critical citations, especially concerning dates and names of authors.

The history of development is factually incorrect, the classical textbook list includes massively incorrect dates, very few citations, and appears to just be a random collection of texts.

The writing is stilted and needs to be updated to read more clearly.

• The detoxification or purification process of any toxic material used for medicinal purposes is termed as “Shodhana”. Historically Shodhana concept was in existence since the time of Charaka samhita as while enumerating the fundamentals necessary of changes in therapeutic attributes. The concept has further developed after the development of Rasashastra in the field of Ayurvedic medicine. As in Rasashastra generally the metals/minerals and some time few drugs of poisonous nature are found used which are likely to contain some toxic effect also. Hence with a view to remove or minimize their toxicity and to make them suitable for further process a number of Shodhana procedures have been found evolved which are claimed helpful in reducing the toxic effect of these drugs.

No. Rasashastra might be a part of ayurveda. But is not a compilation of traditional Indian medicine.

A compilation of Indian traditional medicine is "Ayurveda/Ayurvedic"

"Rassa" means mercury

"shastra" means knowledge.

"Rasashatras"= knowledge/science of mercury.

(or some people say "knowledge of metals")
