"This article or section is not written in the formal tone expected of an encyclopedia article. Please improve it ..." could whoever wrote that please give me something mroe specific? I don't want tohe article to be deleted - it's dear to me, but i don't, at present, have the time to re-write it.

I didn't write that comment but have now looked at the article in some depth & attempted to revise it to bring it more into line with the Manual of Style. I have attempted to remove some of the phrases which were not from a Neutral point of view and some of the colloquialisms. In some sections there is still to much detail including the names of local farmers etc which, while adding "colour" do not really sit well in an encyclopedia. There is also a fair amount of repetition between the history sections. Further information would be useful about the village today (eg population, employment) and perhaps the other areas detailed in Wikipedia:WikiProject UK geography/How to write about settlements.— Rod talk 20:14, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
One thing I think should happen here is for the history section to be removed to it's own page, and a summary left here. See Wikipedia:WikiProject_UK_geography/How_to_write_about_settlements#History. Some material might also stay here under Landmarks and Economy etc. Derek Andrews 01:01, 19 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
