Referendums and plebiscites in the PhilippinesReferendums in the Phillipines – This article has been moved more than twice in the past 7 days. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:11, 19 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This article has been moved more than twice in the past 7 days. FWIW, I see that "referendum" refers to a general term for an electoral exercise that involves voting but not actual people, and "plebiscite" refers to a subset of electoral exercises of referendums. Other people may interpret this differently. Howard the Duck (talk) 22:19, 10 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Referendums and plebiscites mean two different things in the Philippines and we should adapt to local terminology (i.e. have both in the article title). Marcocapelle (talk) 07:21, 16 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
As stated above, one way of interpreting is that referendums are the general term, while plebiscites are a specific subset of it. Academicians prefer to use "referendum" as a catch-all term, e.g. "The referendum scorecard 1935-1987" by Manuel L. Quezon III, plus the Dieter Nohlen book also used "referendum".
If anything, this should be moved back as it was moved several times without discussion. Howard the Duck (talk) 16:02, 17 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Article restored to status quo ante location pending the outcome of the discussion. Timrollpickering (talk) 11:47, 19 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
