I don't think that Barbara Cartland's books really count as Regency romances - my belief is that while she wrote very many romances, they are mostly set in the 20th century... but I could be wrong so I haven't changed the page.

I think, but am not sure, that another author who does do regency romances would be Jane Aitken Hodge - who also wrote the biography of G. Heyer. "The Private World of Goergette Heyer".

I would agree about Barbara Cartland since her novels are all over the timespan. She was however widely read in her day. Jane Aiken Hodge wrote The Private World of Georgette Heyer (1984, out of print).

Some Regency authors today refer to Jane Austen or Georgette Heyer as their inspiration; however, not all mention either! Among the best-known living Regency authors still writing about the Regency period today (some who have moved on to other genres are omitted) are

1. Mary Balogh who now writes Regency historicals
2. Eloisa James who writes Regency historicals
3. Stephanie James who now writes Regency historicals
4. Julia Quinn who writes Regency historicals
