Untitled[edit]

Six years tonight since he's been gone, elsewhere. He tought me the stacato rhythm of words that I know well. I must say that I do not repeat the passionate perfectionism of English that he and Mum (Barbara Appleton, co-author and editor of "The Cambridge Dictionary of Australian Places") shared. A passionate poet, as well as brilliant editor, author, father and husband. Like all Poets his heart had been broken, he knew many years of misery. Well respected wtihin "The Push", known to be frequently or always intoxicated (with a cigarette in his hand), his belief's, morals and story's were all Humanistic. The Australian Labor Party was in fact just a vehicle for his belief's, they believed in fairness and equality, paricularly for the blue-collard worker, the majority of his country. Where Dad's belief's were often challenged was (and still are) when he demanded the same for the minority groups; non-caucasian people, criminals, women, single-mothers, children, youthes, the mentally unwell, dictators. He hated dollar values and closed-mindedness. He definetely made his mark on Australian Humanity. I hope for the readers spirits and souls, he was part of their lives. He inspired love, caring and intelligence in all that knew and understood him well. Beth. A. 27/4/2010
