Knighted?[edit]

I'm not sure the source stating he was knighted is correct, I can't find anything in the London Gazette to substantiate it, and even the entries relating to his death and estate don't describe him as sir. See:

Whitehall, November 26, 1866 The Queen has pleased to direct letters patent to be passed under the Great Seal, granting the diginity of a Knight of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland unto Richard Atwood Glass, Esq. http://www.london-gazette.co.uk/issues/23191/pages/6468 MilborneOne (talk) 14:38, 16 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
can't argue with that. The state of the page explains why it wasn't picked up in the search I guees. David Underdown (talk) 14:53, 16 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I cheated I looked up the rough date of the award in the ODNB then just searched for Glass rather then the full name in the relevant year of the LG! but you were right not the best quality or scanned page. MilborneOne (talk) 18:30, 16 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It is the excellent work by the likes of you two that makes lobbing things into DYK so worthwhile - well done. Motmit (talk) 18:44, 16 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
