DJ Rankings section[edit]

This guy is currently claiming five different "DJ rankings". There's 5 citations, matching his five different claims to a rank, but only one of them doesn't link to a non-existent page. The rest don't exist and should be deleted. The one page that actually exists says he's not not #1, like his Wikipedia claims page, but he's actually #3 (click the citation and check for yourself). Additionally, he currently lists himself as #2 in "The DJ List Ranking", but simultaneously lists himself as #1 in the "Top Deejays Ranking" ranking of 2015 which is the same company, except this time he's in first. What? Maybe I'm missing something, but it seems pretty impossible to me that (unless he provides a source, which he currently isn't), that Richie Hawtin made The DJ List's 2015 "Top Global Techno" chart as both the #1 and #2 rank simultaneously. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:602:9502:5800:D4B5:8276:7A99:A51A (talk) 10:34, 26 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

DE9 section[edit]

Most of the marketspeak in the DE9 section is really drippy. Anyone want to take a crack at rewriting it? matt kane's brain 13:59, 22 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

sven vath[edit]

i dunno if private life belongs here, but it should be said that he's romantically involved with colleague sven vath.

Its not true. The rumor is based on u-tube footage of them hugging at a rave, but they're just off their faces. Ceoil 13:03, 8 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What a load of absolute garbage! Hawtin is not gay and there has never been any suggestion that he is. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.195.138.113 (talk) 22:41, 15 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Album Chronology[edit]

I'm seeing some problems in Album Chronology.

  1. Anybody know which came first, Recycled Plastik or Musik?
  2. Anybody know which came first, [[Artifakts [bc]] or Consumed?

The Ronin 21:34, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm pretty sure that Artifakts came before Consumed, because "bc" means "before consumed". --98.199.46.24 (talk) 02:42, 26 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The music on Artifakts (bc) (Minus03) predates Consumed (Minus01), although it was released afterwards. —Preceding unsigned comment added by RNA7 (talkcontribs) 14:56, 23 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Exiled from US?[edit]

[[Artifakts [bc]]] claims that he was exiled from the US for "performing illegally". Any truth to that statement? --98.199.46.24 (talk) 02:42, 26 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've fixed this up now. Kjartan (talk) 17:59, 10 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, it is correct. Hawtin had been working in the US without the necessary work permits and was not allowed to enter the US for a period of time. How long that was, I'm not sure. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.149.235.75 (talk) 16:30, 24 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Q[edit]

Does anybody know the name of the early Hawtin track that had a voice saying "Overdose, Overdose, Overdose, Overdose" in the middle. I had on a DJ set cassette in about 1991 (lond since broken); was never able to track it down since. I've added a sample. What a great track. Evil as fuck. Ceoil (talk) 14:02, 30 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Plastikman, a moniker he continued to use into the mid 2000s. Is Plastikman retired now so? Ceoil (talk) 07:37, 29 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Revise article structure?[edit]

Hello,

There seems to be a fair amount of career info missing from this article- mostly related to non-music stuff (fashion, education, art- more stuff on sake etc), and I was wondering if it would make sense to revise the structure a little- maybe just have one career section with subheadings for each area- music, fashion, education, art etc. But I haven't edited the page before so would also not want to wade in and steam roll through edits that others might not want. Other option could be two main subsections within career section- music and entrepreneurship? Would someone be willing to advise on this?

Thanks all! Thebookstamper (talk) 12:30, 7 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • we need to be diligent about avoiding WP:SOAP, WP:NOTCV, and WP:FAN. Only add content that is provably notable, using WP:SECONDARY & WP:RS sources. Hawtin's notability stems primarily from his activity in dance music production, DJing, and running labels. Acousmana 12:49, 7 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Appreciate that- definitely. I think better to just add some extra facts under the existing entrepreneurshiup subsection, where possible. Provided backed up by notable secondary sources. There is some stuff I saw he'd done related to education- I appreciate it's not what he's most notable for, but if sourced from publications such as Vice, Mixmag- that would count as appropriate? There is also a recording of a lecture/demo he did at Uni of Michigan, on youtube, but I'm unsure if that would count as an acceptable source, if it's not mentioned in any publications. Finally, if that content were to be added, it would not necessarily sit correctly within music or entrepreneurship, so should there be a more general career section? Apologies for the questions but I don't want to accidentally engage in poor editing. Thanks for the advice. Thebookstamper (talk) 13:48, 7 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
can we bundle all the other work/stuff into a separate, stand alone section. He is a DJ who also...lets not complicate. Ceoil (talk) 06:45, 9 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
That said, any additions welcome, agree the article is underdeveloped. Ceoil (talk) 09:49, 9 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks so much- that sounds sensible. One section for music career and one section for other work etc. Working on that now. Thebookstamper (talk) 14:24, 13 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

whatever text is added WP:WEIGHT needs to be observed, and sources should be more than a press release pushed to Mixmag via a publicity agent. Music PR and actual objective secondary coverage are two very different things, focus on the latter Acousmana 12:06, 10 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you- will be following that guidance. Thebookstamper (talk) 14:26, 13 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
