I thought it also meant to rig a sign[edit]

I thought a rigger was a person that rigged signs. Some signs are assembled and then errected on their location. Because of this the frame is separate from the material, and the material is then unfolded and rigged to the sign. I guess 'rigger' could be a very colloquial or informal way of referring to such persons because such people are probably just handymen or casual labourers who happen to be called in for this specific purpose of sign erection. I'm sorry, but this entry is terrible.

There's no citations whatsoever for any of the information provided. In my area, Riggers don't have to go through apprenticeship (and haven't for decades). So that info is either localized or just untrue.
