Was this movie available before the release date?[edit]

I am transcribing my late mother's diary (she lived in London, England). The entry for October 29 1945 reads: "Saw Bob & Bing in "Road to Utopia" in the afternoon...

IMDB gives the release date at 22 March 1946, and the Wikipedia article confirms the release year as 1946. How could my mother have seen the movie well before the release date? Was it released in different countries at different times?
