Legal implications?[edit]

Is the proliferation due to advice from attorneys of the bereaved to set up these shrines in order to influence juries for wrongful death suits that often result from such accidents?

I googled a bit for this, but couldn't find any source materials to suggest this. If you have seen any, please post them. TH 06:53, 30 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Wow! That's amazingly cynical! anyhow -- yeah, cite your source.

Snappy remark[edit]

As a kid in the 50s I once pointed out a roadside memorial to my mother and asked her what it was. Without pausing for a moment she explained, "That's something hillbillies do, when one of 'em gets run over." Tex (talk) 18:34, 19 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Accident Markers[edit]

I don't know if this will really belong in this subject, but South Australia have accident markers as well as the memorials the family/friends put up. They are a black painted wooden pole with a white cross on it if a death occured, and red (with no other insignia) if a major injury was sustained at the location, they are erected by the government as a warning to drive safely. They sometimes end up becoming memorial markers as well, with family/friends placing flowers on the marker.

Info about them can be found here: http://www.dtei.sa.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0003/40179/1586129-v2-Traffic_Management_-_AS1742_19_-_Roadside_Crash_Markers_-_Operational_Instruction_19_5.PDF 219.90.192.25 (talk) 06:36, 8 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
