Notability[edit]

I am not sure him being the Dean of the KSU School of Business makes him notable enough for an article since the KSU School of Business, while good, is not that notable a school of business. I placed the tag on there with the hopes that other editors will chime in. Other opinions? --JonRidinger (talk) 22:24, 20 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry. My well-intentioned inexperience is showing. Heisler's notability stems from his being chairman of the board of Key Bank, the US's 12-largest bank by total assets. I should have put that first. Being Dean at KSU is only his "retirement" job and is not, as you noted, the main accomplishment of his career. I understand that Key Bank did very well under his leadership (the bank hasn't since gone bust!)and may add some citations to that effect when I pin some down. I didn't want this entry to sound like a canonization, although I did think Heisler merited inclusion. Auctions80 (talk) 13:31, 22 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hey we've all been there at some point. Be sure to check WP:NOTABILITY when you are able. That will be your best guide. Also look for other examples of articles that feature a chairman of the board. Simply being part of a large notable company doesn't necessarily equate to notability for an individual, though it can. And it doesn't matter which job he had first, only which one resulted in him becoming notable. A good beginning test is your sources. If you have trouble finding a large amount of third-party sources on him, there's a good chance he probably isn't that notable. Also see WP:SOURCES. Reliable citations are key to proving notability and resisting deletion. Without them, the article is speculation at best and is almost sure to get deleted. There may also be a general rule that all chairmen of the board are notable, but I have never seen that (such a rule does exist, however, for all high schools being notable, for example). Also be sure to check WP:NCCN, which talks about naming conventions for the title of the article. Best of luck editing! --JonRidinger (talk) 03:38, 23 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
