Ancestry of Robert Mawer[edit]

I looked long and hard for a Robert Mawer born around 1807. I only found two - one born in Lincolnshire, and one baptised at Middlesmoor in 1808 - the entry reads "Hathen Car. Robert son of William Mawer bap'd Nov. 5" (I have an image of the relevant page of the parish register entry, but I'm not sure if I can upload it to WP.) I know from my other researches that there were several Mawer families in Stonebeck Up township, at the top of Nidderdale.
Is this the Mawer grave in Ripley churchyard you mean? If so it seems that that Robert Mawer was born in 1822 and died in 1832. I found that Robert in the Ripley parish register, baptised in 1822, the illegitimate son of Elizabeth Mawer. But there is a connection with Middlesmoor. The aunt of Robert (1822-1832), Mary Beecroft nee Mawer, was baptised in Middlesmoor on 2 January 1801, the daughter of William Mawer. I found William's baptism at Middlesmoor on 13 March 1766, when his father Thomas was living at Haden Carr. William the son was baptised at Middlesmoor in 1796, the son of William and Mary. Amazingly, Mary lived long enough to be in the 1861 census, at Bishop Thornton, at the age of 100 although her birthplace was just recorded as "Nidderdale". In the 1851 census her birthplace was recorded as Kirkby Malzeard, a large parish which then included Middlesmoor.
So it looks like Robert the sculptor was the uncle of Robert who died at Ripley aged 10 in 1832.--Mhockey (talk) 15:53, 28 April 2019 (UTC)
