The article says that Rodney is Grandad's grandson, and Uncle Albert's great-nephew. But as the son of Freddie the Frog, Rodney isn't really related to the Trotter side of the family at all. Daibhid C 19:14, 24 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Parentage non-canonical?[edit]

I don't understand why the fact that Freddie the Frog is Rodney's father is listed as non-canon. Is it that the Xmas specials are not considered part of the OFAH canon or is it just "Sleepless in Peckham" in partular. It is strongly implied that FtF is Rodney's father as far back as the "Frogs Legacy" episode. Ade myers 01:55, 5 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Some people consider the final three shows to be non-canon because of plot holes etc, or perhaps because they feel those episodes should not have been made at all. But there's nothing official or concrete in that point of view. Imo, the facts should be presented as outlined in the whole series. SteveO 20:26, 8 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
To add years later, there was a lot of retconning about this over the years. "Thicker than Water", the 1983 Christmas special, brought up the rumours about Joan having affairs, but the implication of the truth of the blood tests is that Rodney is descended from Reg and Grandad and is a full sibling of Del (at least once the truth of Reg's alterations is revealed - which actually focused on Del).
"The Frog's Legacy", the 1987 Christmas special, is the first to mention Freddie the Frog and strongly hints that Rodney is actually his son (with a complication that Del is in complete denial about his mother having had affairs), but also Del knows nothing of this man.
"Sleepless in Peckham", the 2003 Christmas special/final episode, goes further and establishes that Rodney looks exactly like Freddie the Frog (Nicholas Lindhurst plays the character in the photo and later in the prequel Rock & Chips), with Del now stating that he knew Freddie but not by his nickname.
It is hard to believe that Reg would not have spotted Rodney's resemblance to Freddie and automatically deduced that he was living proof of an affair and "Rock & Chips" establishes Reg and Freddie knew each other well so this must be a retcon that didn't clean up after itself. In "Sleepless in Peckham" there are lines that try to explain Del's ignorance in "The Frog's Legacy" as not having known "Uncle Fred"'s nickname or surname but again they don't really explain how he didn't make the connection or spot such obvious proof of an affair - there's only so far denial and the preservation of myths about his mother could go. The Frog was only inserted into the family backstory some years down the line and given an elevated role much later on and the result is a confusing mess that gave supporting evidence to critics of the final specials who wanted to decanonise them. Fair use rationale for Image:Only Fools and Horses 2.jpg[edit]

Image:Only Fools and Horses 2.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Occupation[edit]

I could well be wrong, but was there not a period of time when Rodney worked for Cassandra's dad at a printers or something? I'm afraid i cant give you the names of any episodes and this might be a load of twoddle but i seem to remember rodney asking uncle albert to ring in sick for him.

Copyediting[edit]

I changed the contractions "can't", "didn't" and "wasn't" to "cannot", "did not" and "was not"; I also removed two ampersands. Both in accordance with the MoS.
