Stub! also, I came here from the link about some of their members being excommunicated? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.43.245.149 (talk) 01:19, 11 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Excommunications completely/deliberately excluded.[edit]

Members of multiple organizations in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Lincoln, Nebraska were excommunicated by Bishop Fabian Bruskewitz in March 1996 for promoting positions he deemed "totally incompatible with the Catholic faith". The organizations include Call to Action, Catholics for a Free Choice, Planned Parenthood, the Hemlock Society, the Freemasons, and the Society of St. Pius X. The Vatican later confirmed the excommunication of Call to Action members in November 2006. Needs to be added.johncheverly 15:54, 12 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Note that the article's second paragraph states that Bishop Bruskewitz forbade membership in several of these organizations, under pain of excommunication. How could we add to this? As I understand, excommunication proceeded under a "you know who you are" scheme: the diocese didn't issue a release listing the excommunicands, there was no subsequent excommunication ceremony, and the excommunicands didn't get letters or certificates informing them of the fact. I've expanded the list of groups, with a citation; but I don't see how either the previous version or the new one shows bias.
Looking at the article's history, I also don't see any basis for adding the COI tag. I'm removing it; if you restore it, please give your reasons for doing so. Thanks. Ammodramus (talk) 18:08, 12 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Fine by me. I'm not making anymore criticisms. Personally, I think the whole "you know who you are" excommunication is bullshit. It is interesting that, out of all the groups, the only one The Holy See named was Call to Action. Hmmm . . .johncheverly 21:50, 12 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
