Declining[edit]

I've declined this, as I removed the part that was a copyright violation. I'm a little uncomfortable deleting an entire article because one of the sections was a copyright violation. I think that there's enough asserted notability to where this would be better discussed at AfD if there's still a desire to delete it. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 10:29, 9 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, user talk:Tokyogirl79. :) The copyvio was not restricted to one section - the entire article was created as a copy-paste, and the history of the article has always been corrupt. It's not uncommon on Wikipedia to address these issues were possible with excising the copyvio, but when you do that, it's really important to find it all. If you don't remove all of the copy-pasted content and work created by modifying the content, then I'm afraid what we're left with is a blatantly derivative work. Copyright owners have the legal right to license modifications and abridgments of their work. Even if only a small passage remains, I'm not comfortable with presuming it's de minimis when the copyright holder can easily demonstrate that our entire article was based on his writing.
I've done a little further cleaning on the lead, which said:

The Prelature of Batanes is a prelature of the Roman Catholic Church in the Philippines and was created on November 30, 1950, comprising the civil province of Batanes and the Babuyan Islands group which belongs to the province of Cagayan. Its titular patron is Santo Domingo de Guzman whose feast the prelature celebrates on August 8.

Somebody has simply inserted a few words there, but otherwise it was still the same. :/ --Moonriddengirl (talk) 13:39, 9 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
