my old username was coolsnr4u, i said correct name is rourkela.
There is not any source but rourkela is widely used Snroy 09:45, 18 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I also know that Rourkela is widely used, but recently I have seen many place where it is spelt Raurkela. Take this for example: http://trainenquiry.com/Arrival_Display.aspx?sel_val=ROU+&queryDisplay=RAURKELA,+ROU+&time=24&name=&code=ROU It says that the name is Raurkela. And it is a government company, so it can be a good source. —vedant (talkcontribs) 10:08, 18 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
See this http://www.sail.co.in/plants_rourkela.asp, this is Rourkela Steel Plant's website here it is spelt rourkela and this is also a government company. Snroy 15:41, 21 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Seems we are going round and round in circles. Isn't there some registrar where the names can be checked up? —vedant (talkcontribs) 07:50, 24 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
See this: http://www.getty.edu/vow/TGNFullDisplay?find=Rourkela&place=&nation=&prev_page=1&english=Y&subjectid=7001585
It says that Raurkela is preferred. And it is a highly credible site. —vedant (talkcontribs) 08:05, 24 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Rourkela is preferred by the locals and that's of utmost importance — Preceding unsigned comment added by Debitpixie (talkcontribs) 20:18, 19 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Rourkela is correct as it is used by the courts. Hope this settles the debate. Sundargarh/District Court in India | Official Website of District Court of India (ecourts.gov.in) Shma.27.shma (talk) 14:21, 3 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Cleanup[edit]

It seems the article has been cleaned up. I don't see why nobody discussed it here. —vedant (talkcontribs) 15:27, 4 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Further clean-up[edit]

Removed a fairly laughable list of buses (and the organizations that run them) with their registration numbers. Struck me as useless. Sdsouza 16:22, 25 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WP:INDIA Banner/Orissa Addition[edit]

Note: {{WP India}} Project Banner with Orissa workgroup parameters was added to this article talk page because the article falls under Category:Orissa or its subcategories. Should you feel this addition is inappropriate , please undo my changes and update/remove the relavent categories to the article -- Amartyabag TALK2ME 03:40, 5 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Cleaned up[edit]

I have cleanup this article a bit. It was full WP:PEACOCK, WP:POV, WP:IUP and WP:NOTTRAVEL violations, not to mention lacking references. This is an encyclopedia and not a travel guide. Do not undo until you have read and digested the relevant policies. Put it in Wikitravel please. --Triwbe (talk) 18:22, 18 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

clanniness[edit]

Beside our house there is not any system to pass the dirty water. Road is also not made; it is very difficult to ride the bike.

Article name[edit]

It appears both Rourkela and Raurkela are used with Census data using Raurkela (see censusindia.gov.in), but many Universities and Agencies using Rourkela. So which should be use as the name of the article? Frietjes (talk) 23:06, 8 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi User Frietjes, that's an interesting point... However the bulk of the usage even in other official sites puts the name as "Rourkela", so having a representation that is acceptable at the state level would be valid... Some refs. from the official site... http://ds.orissaminerals.gov.in/gisreport/ROURKELA.html, http://dcmsme.gov.in/dips/DIPS-New-Sungarh%20-%20Copy.pdf, http://www.orissaminerals.gov.in/website/StateIndustry.aspx?GL=sip&PL=3, etc. Even maps refer to the location with the same name. Thanks. --Karan1974 (talk) 17:53, 9 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Any further weather data available?[edit]

I've been looking but unable to find mean monthly sunshine hours, average relative humidity, average rainy days and record highs and lows from a credible source. Can someone help me look? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Debitpixie (talkcontribs) 20:23, 19 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Economy section[edit]

The first para under the section 'Economy' goes like this. 'Rourkela is the industrial capital of Odisha (Formerly Orissa). Rourkela, with a population of 6 lakhs and the first place in India to house the 1.8 million ton integrated steel plant, joins the IT world through STPI. The city is popularly known as the engineering heartland of India. It is truly cosmopolitan in nature and enjoys high-class international infrastructure, modern amenities, and skilled professionals for software development and exports. Odisha (Formerly Orissa) being the latest addition in E-Governance applications, creates enthusiasm for software development companies to explore the domestic business also. Location-wise it is truly a hill station, with integrated infrastructure such as rail, road, air, abundant natural mineral resources such as water, land, power, rich pool of skilled people, top-rated social and civic infrastructure for reposing, and Universal friendliness. These factors have attracted many industrialists outside the state to choose Rourkela as their destination.' The intro as a whole is fluffy, to say the least, out of which the following sentences need to be removed / re-worded

1) The city is popularly known as the engineering heartland of India. - Really? On what basis is this claim being made? Remember, this city as of date doesn't have an airport. While it is true that SAIL has a major steel plant set up here, this hardly qualifies as being described as the engineering heartland of India. Remember, when talking of the entire country of India, one is comparing this city to cities like Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai etc. which will have much more manufacturing and IT (just to cite 2 examples) companies any given day. Suggest re-wording to 'The city is popularly known as the engineering heartland of Orissa'.

2) Odisha (Formerly Orissa) being the latest addition in E-Governance applications, creates enthusiasm for software development companies to explore the domestic business also. What does this sentence mean or try to convey? This should be re-worded once the meaning is clear or deleted all together.

3) Location-wise it is truly a hill station, with integrated infrastructure such as rail, road, air, abundant natural mineral resources such as water, land, power, rich pool of skilled people, top-rated social and civic infrastructure for reposing, and Universal friendliness. This is fluff, we can keep it but Rourkela is no hill station. This city has a hot, dry summer with temperatures exceeding 40 degrees centigrade quite often. Ideally, I would like to remove this sentence as it adds no value to the article, at the bare minimum suggest removing the term ' hill station' from the fluff.
