Robert Matthew[edit]

Was Robert Matthew the main architect, or part of a team? Either way, it should be mentioned in the article. --Mais oui! 07:09, 11 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

'RC Pool'?[edit]

Never, ever heard anything other than 'Commie' in terms of a nickname. This is OR to an extent I happily concede, but 'RC Pool' seems so very unlikely in that 'RC' is a common acronym in speech for someone who is Catholic and I don't think it conflates here.

A citation, some discussion here, arbitration, consensus. Any or all of these things would be welcomed here instead of the vandalism and edit warring going on here to keep the wiki incorrect for personal reasons/stalkery. It has to stop. --89.211.65.21 (talk) 09:28, 15 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The IP has a point. If we can't find a source for the nickname "RC Pool", we cannot include it in the article. Goodvac (talk) 10:02, 15 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
U-ha... but you bring it up here first, or upon the first revert, and not when you're dragged to ANI. NO?Choyoołʼįįhí:Seb az86556 > haneʼ 10:04, 15 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I wasn't even involved in the first place. I made no reverts. Goodvac (talk) 10:06, 15 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I've cited the 'Commie' nickname. I would expect the same for 'RC Pool'. That's not unreasonable, or is it? --89.211.65.21 (talk) 10:07, 15 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Would this suffice? Goodvac (talk) 10:09, 15 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think so. It's very weak and she's not an Edinburgher. Seems she's using it as a contraction, also, not a nickname? --89.211.65.21 (talk) 10:11, 15 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
(addendum) 'RC Pool' yields zero relevant google hits. --89.211.65.21 (talk) 10:27, 15 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The source does not state that the pool is known as the "RC Pool", so it could just as easily be an abbreviation or the journalist could be using shorthand. If it is known as the RC Pool then I would expect several independent sources to refer to it in that manner, so the anon is correct to ask for source corroboration. Betty Logan (talk) 10:43, 15 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
A bit of googling reveals it is colloquially known as the "Commie Pool" and sometimes by its acronym "RCP": http://www.edinburgh.gov.uk/news/article/91/royal_commonwealth_pool_refurbishment_update. A blog by a local councillor refers to it as the "Royal Commonwealth Pool", the "Commie Pool" and the "RCP" here: http://aitkensedinburgh.blogspot.com/2007/12/what-futrure-for-commie-pool.htmlBetty Logan (talk) 10:54, 15 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
'RCP' I have heard. 'RC Pool' is not something I am familiar with. Even the newspapers call it the Commie. However I agree (surprise!) with your reading of the 'RC Pool' citation text - she's not using it as anything other than a contraction. However, there is a far broader issue here in that I think it's obvious that 'RC Pool' must stay in for some people because I don't want it there. The reason I don't want it there is pure: it's plain wrong. Those would would have it stay have less pure motives, including one charmer who reverted me saying I musn't be allowed to 'get away with it'. That's got to be a concern as a motivation for editing, especially when I just want the piece to be accurate. I think some - plural - substantive citations are needed to have 'RC Pool' in there as a colloquialism and not a contraction. If they can be found, all well and good, but 'personal' editing remains an issue for many people, myself included... for today. --89.211.65.21 (talk) 11:01, 15 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
http://aitkensedinburgh.blogspot.com/2007/12/what-futrure-for-commie-pool.html (given by Betty Logan) is a reliable source for calling it RCP, its written by a councillor, people can't argue with that now?--Lerdthenerd (talk) 12:03, 15 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
No-one is arguing about the inclusion of 'RCP' as, if nothing else, an acronym for the pool, if not an actual colloqiualism. Unless I have missed something... --89.211.65.21 (talk) 12:06, 15 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I've added RCP, but your right about RC pool, that can't go in until we find a source--Lerdthenerd (talk) 12:08, 15 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I see, but can you stay on topic please we are discussing the sources not ranting about other users here--Lerdthenerd (talk) 12:19, 15 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I do apologise. This has been very testing. Fingers crossed the matter is now closed, though I think I would be naive to think that this is the end of it. --89.211.65.21 (talk) 12:26, 15 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
