'RC Pool'?[edit]

Never, ever heard anything other than 'Commie' in terms of a nickname. This is OR to an extent I happily concede, but 'RC Pool' seems so very unlikely in that 'RC' is a common acronym in speech for someone who is Catholic and I don't think it conflates here.

A citation, some discussion here, arbitration, consensus. Any or all of these things would be welcomed here instead of the vandalism and edit warring going on here to keep the wiki incorrect for personal reasons/stalkery. It has to stop. --89.211.65.21 (talk) 09:28, 15 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The source does not state that the pool is known as the "RC Pool", so it could just as easily be an abbreviation or the journalist could be using shorthand. If it is known as the RC Pool then I would expect several independent sources to refer to it in that manner, so the anon is correct to ask for source corroboration. A bit of googling reveals it is colloquially known as the "Commie Pool" and sometimes by its acronym "RCP": http://www.edinburgh.gov.uk/news/article/91/royal_commonwealth_pool_refurbishment_update. 'RCP' I have heard. 'RC Pool' is not something I am familiar with. Even the newspapers call it the Commie. However I agree (surprise!) with your reading of the 'RC Pool' citation text - she's not using it as anything other than a contraction. However, there is a far broader issue here in that I think it's obvious that 'RC Pool' must stay in for some people because I don't want it there. The reason I don't want it there is pure: it's plain wrong. Those would would have it stay have less pure motives, including one charmer who reverted me saying I musn't be allowed to 'get away with it'. That's got to be a concern as a motivation for editing, especially when I just want the piece to be accurate. I think some - plural - substantive citations are needed to have 'RC Pool' in there as a colloquialism and not a contraction. If they can be found, all well and good, but 'personal' editing remains an issue for many people, myself included... for today. --89.211.65.21 (talk) 11:01, 15 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
