6x Pro Bowls

Wilson is a 6 time Pro Bowler as of the 2018 season, as corroborated by this source: https://www.seahawks.com/news/russell-wilson-named-to-2019-pro-bowl

The discrepancy lies with 2014. He was retroactively credited with a Pro Bowl that season due to his Super Bowl appearance not allowing him to participate.

Should that be mentioned in the prose somewhere? Either in the 2014 section, or in the intro to the article with a line like "Wilson has been selected for the Pro Bowl six times, including a retroactive selection in 2014, when he could not participate because he played in the Super Bowl"? —C.Fred (talk) 14:10, 11 January 2019 (UTC)

I should clarify the "retroactively" part was my own addition and I'm not 100% sure that's actually the case. The Seahawks Media Guide in every iteration since 2015 does list Wilson as a Pro Bowler for the 2014 season. ...who cares if that's from there? It could be very well a typo or a mistake. I wouldn't trust it much at all. I checked the Pro Football Reference. Go to there. He was never selected for the 2014 Pro Bowl. Simple. The Gamer 91 (talk) 17:08, 20 January 2019 (UTC)

Literally Joe Flacco had a similar occurrence that year. He was named a replacement player, but couldn't go. It doesn't matter for your article if it's not official. "Players must have accepted their invitations as alternates to be listed; those who declined, such as Joe Flacco and Philip Rivers, are not considered Pro Bowlers" The Gamer 91 (talk) 17:10, 20 January 2019 (UTC)

PFR's database doesn't include the 3rd criterion. I contacted their bugs department last week and they're correcting it. Also PFR is not an official NFL source. I listed 3 below which override PFR's database. Thanks. aqwfyj ^Talk/_Contribs 17:11, 20 January 2019 (UTC)

Can you get someone else to confirm this with you? Maybe someone on a higher level, cause it seems like you are the only one defending your point. The number of pro bowls is incorrect.

Russel Wilson has made 5 pro bowls including this year as a starter/ reserve/ alternate. He never made the pro bowl in 2014. Can somebody fix that error, please? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Shogun902 (talk • contribs) 02:04, 12 January 2019 (UTC)

Wilson did earn a Pro Bowl berth in 2014 as an alternate who could not attend due to the Super Bowl. It is a rare exception to the "alternate who participates" rule. Can be verified in the 2018 Seahawks Media Guide on page 153. aqwfyj ^Talk/_Contribs 02:44, 12 January 2019 (UTC)

Furthermore, the NFL's Communications Coordinator confirmed to me that there are three ways to be considered a Pro Bowler: Original selection, alternate who participates in the game itself, or alternate who would have been chosen to participate but couldn't attend due to the Super Bowl. This was via email exchange though so I can't include it as a source here.
