There are two stores and founders who are being confused; S.H. Kress and S.S. Kresge. Kresge was an early five and dime, competing with Woolworth, which is the one that in the 60s or 70s created K-Mart, not Kress. Mulp (talk) 05:05, 2 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Folks I am going to remove the redirect here from 'Kress'. There is a governor in Russia with the same name. I believe that if you will check, the K Marts were NOT an outgrowth of the S.H. Kress Company, they were the outgrowth of the S.S. Kresge stores. The Chairman of the Board and Acting President of S.H. Kress (William B. Sutherland) resigned in 1959 or 1960 because Kress would NOT move their stores from downtown to the suburbs in the mart style. I suggest the removal or drastic re-working of the second and third paragraphs in this section. The impartiality is easily questioned, and the mention that Genesco bought the Kress chain in 1955, the year of Mr. Kress's death, flatly contradicts the paragraph near the top which says that the sale to Genesco took place in 1964.
