"In-show advertising"?[edit]

"In-show advertising began on October 9, 2006 during the 7.30pm broadcast of MythBusters."

But what does "In show advertising" actually mean? JayKeaton 13:31, 26 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"In-show advertising" means, advertising breaks during programming. This began on October 9, 2006 during the 7.30pm broadcast of MythBusters on SBS TV. Stickeylabel 13:39, 26 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
"Advertisement breaks" seems like a much clearer way of expressing it. Even though I am well aware of the recent introduction of ad breaks in SBS programming, I honestly thought that was trying to refer to product placement or something similar. JayKeaton 14:05, 26 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • To make the colours easier to read. I considered changing the colours in the note to match the ones used in the table but some appear too similar to others. Also in the preview after my changes the table appears in preview not to match the width of the table before i changed it. So I am placing it here for now. Farsouth 06:48, 14 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

SBS TV?[edit]

since when is it been called SBS TV? i have never in my whole life heard it been called that!Australian Jezza 06:46, 11 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

SBS by itself is a link to a disambig page, here SBS. Thats the only reason I can see for it. Farsouth 13:24, 11 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Because one day there may be more than one SBS television channel (in fact there already is) so just to be safe the distinction is neccessary. Also, since SBS have radio stations SBS is the Corporation/Service, and SBS TV/SBS WNC/SBS Radio is the tv channel/radio station. timgraham 15:04, 11 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

yes... i guess... but not every person can get the world news channels, and even if they did. they still wouldn't really refer ot it as SBS... but point taken thanksAustralian Jezza 09:52, 12 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think this is a good point. A browse though the SBS website shows very little use of the name SBS TV. The name SBS Television is used for the range of TV broadcasting services (including the main channel, the World News Channel, SBS 2 and, until recently, SBS Essentials) and there is already a Wikipedia page for that. The main channel of SBS Television seems to be almost always be referred to as just SBS. I think SBS (television channel) would be a more appropriate name for the page. Also see [1]

As a side note, there should also probably be a new page created for SBS2 which occasionally broadcasts additional content (Not to be confused with World News Channel which is sometimes referred to as SBS Digital 2 or SBS2) 220.239.240.244 02:34, 3 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm that makes sense. The onlry real reason I can see for this page being called SBS TV is because ABC TV has the same naming convention.

As for SBS2, that could probably just do with a section in the SBS Television article for now, until it begins to show more original content. timgraham 06:43, 3 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unspecified source for Image:457px-SBS.png[edit]

I found Image:457px-SBS.png and noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. Someone will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If it was obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self-no-disclaimers}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If there are other files on this page, consider checking that they have specified their source and are tagged properly, too. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 05:09, 26 May 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Fair use rationale for Image:457px-SBS.png[edit]

Image:457px-SBS.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.Betacommand (talkcontribsBot) 05:09, 26 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Section needed on management change/controversy[edit]

I realise that SBS themselves probably edit this page, but there really ought to be information on the recent management change and the dissatisfaction it has caused with viewers and staff at the station.

Also some coverage of the Mary Kostakidis scandal might be useful.58.172.187.227 00:31, 15 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

We need a new logo for "1983-1985" (aka the Network 0-28 years). If anyone has it, please upload it. Eddie Blake 11:46am, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

To Stickeylabel, the changeover from Channel 0/28 to Network 0-28 DOES constitute a logo change! Eddie Blake 12:57pm, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with Image:DatelineSBS.jpg[edit]

The image Image:DatelineSBS.jpg is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
  • That this article is linked to from the image description page.

This is an automated notice by FairuseBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. --20:37, 23 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"SBS Logos"[edit]

Is there any citation for the dates for those SBS logo changes? I suspect that some of them are wild guesses! For instance, SBS didn't altogether drop the "0" from its logo in 1989, in fact it still appeared on their station idents until the logo changed in 1993, which I don't think was on 1 January either. Also, the change from Channel 0/28 to Network 0/28 happened at 7pm on 14 October 1983, so the old logo did not cease on the 13th.Andjb (talk) 13:23, 25 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Should there be a new logo put in this article since it's now called SBS One? Eddie Blake

Channel 0[edit]

In the 1980s section, there is a note that VHF channel 0 service ceased in 1986. I have both memory and photographic evidence that the SBS was still on VHF-0 in the 2000s and likely until digital switchover in Sydney. Can someone please confirm? Channel or network?[edit]

This article is not clear on channel vs network - seems to switch between the two. If it's about the network, it needs to include details of when 2nd and subsequent channels were established, and the relationship to the main SBS corporation, etc. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 13:26, 11 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
