Note, there was a carferry (railroad) also called SS City of Flint, constructed in 1929 in [Manitowoc] WI, and used in Lake Michigan service until 1969, owned by the Pere Marquette RR as part of their fleet. PM32 has more info on her. The two ships are not the same. ++Lar 22:57, 7 December 2005 (UTC)

Havarie[edit]
On arrival at Murmansk the City of Flint's German prize crew are reported to have declared "Havarie", cited to US Naval History and Heritage Command, but with the uncited definition "the privilege of sanctuary for damage caused at sea
". I cannot find such a definition. However it seems more likely the crew were using the normal German word for "average", in the marine insurance sense, possibly the specific use in General Average. Are there more specific references to this incident that may clarify this? Davidships (talk) 22:38, 30 May 2022 (UTC)
