The sacramentum of the Roman military has significance for Christians as well, as the word 'sacrament' is derived from it. The Greek word Christians used for their sacraments was 'mysterium' (Latinized). Anyhow, it might be an interesting expansion on the word 'sacramentum' to explain how the word got used in a Christian context and what the military context brings to the Christian context. It would be of interest to see the original military usage explained more expansively as well, but I'm not the guy to do that. Richard W.
