Untitled[edit]

Is it my imagination, or does this article bear a striking resemblance to Sam Neill's IMDb bio? --Paul A 04:30 Mar 25, 2003 (UTC)

where he acquired his nickname 'Sam'. Apparently there were too many Nigels at the school, and he felt that people tended to like people called Sam more than they liked people called Nigel.

I posted below about a source for Sam Neill. Per that source, Sam Neill verified the facts of her site. In it, Sam Neill does mention that he switched to nickname of Sam for a variety of reasons - namely that Nigel was a source of ridicule.

Controversy[edit]

"This controversy is minor if any as the group exciting the controversy was revealed to be attention seekers and had no moral objections to the advertisement [SIC]."

No mention of who the said group actually are. Labelling the unnamed group as 'attention seekers' does not seem very objective at all, especially when the author is unable to publish the name of the group.

I changed the voice over for the bank from controversial to trivia. It hardly seems controversial to do voice overs for a bank unless there is a known controversy with said bank. I followed the link and found no such controversy. Regards.

Having done more research, I found a great soruce for trivia. Unfortunately, I'm just too dim-witted to do a reference http://www.ibiblio.org/samneill/snfaq.html.

The reference's methodology: Although the contents of this FAQ have been verified as accurate by Mr. Neill, the information in the FAQ was compiled and written by Erika Grams. In other words, this FAQ should in no way be construed as an official statement from Mr. Neill.

How is it controversial at all? I see no conflict of interest and the section itself doesn't contain any information at all on why it is controversial... it just seems to be FUD and so long as there are no objections, I'll soon remove it. --TheSeer (TalkˑContribs) 09:18, 26 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"Best Known"[edit]

How does the "best known for" statement fit into the NPOV idea? Unless there's survey data, this doesn't strike me as an appropriate statement for an encyclopedic article on an actor who has several other highly recognizable roles. Also, the made-for-TV Hallmark production Merlin is missing from the TV/filmography section. I don't know which heading it would go under to add it. SkepticalGal 05:30, 17 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"Stutter"[edit]

Im surprised that no-one had bothered inserting information about Sam's stutter. For any stutterer (such as myself), Sam is an inspiration. Not only did he overcome most of his stutter but he went on to become a successful actor. bad photo[edit]

Doubts[edit]

Thorn Birds?[edit]

Floating around in the Youtube universe tonight I came upon a screen capture image of a scene from the Tv miniseries "The Thorn Birds". I have no recollection of him in the movie, but nonetheless, there he was...(a younger)...Sam Neill. I'm quie certain. Yet no mention of the appearance in this artcle. How come? Perhaps someone could collaborate this evidence? The film centered around a sheep station in Australia, so it would have been a perfect cast for Sam.

Bad acting[edit]

Has really nothing substantial ever been published about his being one of the worst actors in history? Has destroyed movie after movie with that. Ugh! Nope, nope, nope, for months now. My own Google search finds not one source that has ever criticized anything at all that this man has ever done, not even the bad acting which has saturated and polluted every one of his films. Noriko Watanabe[edit]

I've removed the link to the article about Noriko Watanabe. According to IMDB, there are two women by this name in the film industry: an actress and a make-up artist. Sam Neill married the make-up artist, according to this article. Also, if anyone finds a reliable source that gives a year for when Watanabe and Neil separated or divorced, please add details to the article and infobox. Thanks. Lisa Harrow[edit]

An anon recently added to the article "From 1978 to 1989, Neill was married to actress Lisa Harrow Impossible. They never met each other until they began working together on Omen III: The Final Conflict in 1981" (anon's addition in bold). This is supported by (for example) In 1980, I was playing the journalist, Kate Reynolds, on the horror film Omen III: The Final Conflict. Being in the film introduced me to Sam [Neill, who gave me my beloved son, Tim]. I have been unable to find a source for the earlier start of their relationship, other than sources which might have been influenced by this Wikipedia article. Indeed, I haven't seen a reliable source which says they were legally married.

Prior to 5 September 2015, this article mentioned their son but not marriage, and the infobox listed "spouse = Lisa Harrow (19?? – c. 1989); 1 child
Noriko Watanabe (2 September 1989 – present); 1 child". On that date, an anon who has made no other edits changed the question marks so the first year read 1998, an obviously incorrect year. The edit summary was "Awesomely". Later that day, @AlexBogue89: changed the year to 1978, which is more plausible, but I don't know if this was based on some information not cited or an attempt to correct an obvious error. Since then, the infobox line has had mention of a divorce in 1989 added. I haven't found any reliable source for this divorce.

The article on Lisa Harrow similarly used question marks in the infobox, until a change to "1978" by an anon in January 2015.

Are there sources for the marriage of these two people, or sources indicating when they began their relationship? If none can be found, I suggest we revert to the earlier version with the question marks, and adjust the "personal life" section similarly.-gadfium 20:24, 10 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

TV portrayals[edit]

I do recall he portrayed Ian Fleming the James Bond creator in a one night TV drama from his wartime intelligence service in WWII to Fleming's death, portrayedly after a heart attack. However it was so long ago (I place the timing between 1989 when Charles Dance portrayed Fleming in an earler tv drama and one of the 'Jurassic Park' films) that I forgot the title, but it would be worth looking up. I see no mention of Sam Neill in the Ian Fleming wiki article in the section 'Biographical films'.Cloptonson (talk) 15:02, 18 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Filmography suggested addition[edit]

I noticed that Ivanhoe (1983) is not listed among his film credits. However, if you go to the IMDb page or Wikipedia page for the film, he is credited as playing Sir Brian de Bois-Guilbert.
