  • Support. References in article support shortened version. Iamaleopard (talk) 22:22, 21 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. It can lead people into thinking she's a man. Georgia guy (talk) 23:32, 21 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Huh? It isn't our job to tell people what to call themselves, our job is simply to report what name is the most common name for a person. 199.125.109.107 (talk) 05:35, 23 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion[edit]

Any additional comments:

Hmmm, a quick Google of "Samantha Ryan" CBS gave 1210 ghits while "Sam Ryan" CBS gave 4900, but that's not a lot of difference. In everyday speech I'd tend to use the full name. Interested in other views on this. Andrewa (talk) 20:53, 21 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I would believe assuming that these hit are auccurate we should use Sam since there are over 4 times as many hits and that would comply with WP:COMMONNAME --76.66.188.20 (talk) 23:09, 21 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The Google searches I've done are borderline IMO. They do establish that both names are in common usage, but I think it would be unsafe to rely on them to support the assertion that Sam is the common name. If it's true, we should be able to find other evidence; If not, we shouldn't move the article. Andrewa (talk) 00:13, 22 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
When I wrote "Per sources", I meant the 2 sources in the article: the Media week news article, and her ESPN bio. If someone wants it to stay at the unsourced Samantha, they'll need to replace the inline sources or find a reliable source that states that Samantha Ryan and Sam Ryan is the same person in order to keep the 2 current sources. -- Jeandré, 2008-03-22t16:58z

However, there is an actor named Samuel J. Ryan born about 1860 http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0752828/ 199.125.109.107 (talk) 06:00, 23 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I've used some of the refs here that had more information than the articles'. I've removed your 2nd link - not the kind of thing we want to link to from a wp:blp talk page. Fanunity states that her full name is Samantha, but that site is not a reliable enough source. Captions from 2006 and before that from wireimage has Samantha in akas (also when doing a search on Samantha Ryan), and being part of Getty Images is probably reliable - so I've sourced her full name to it per Wikipedia:Mosbio#Pseudonyms, stage names and common names. Sam is however by far the most common recent name used, so the title should still be that per Wikipedia:Mosbio#Names. -- Jeandré, 2008-03-23t09:51z

She might have moved to Turner Sports[edit]

I've been seeing a female with the same name on TBS's broadcast of post-season MLB. Could someone check to see if the topic is up to date? Will (Talk - contribs) 02:25, 23 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
