McGuire Field → San Jose Airport (Mindoro) — I have yet to encounter an official document calling this airport McGuire Field. Neither the CAAP nor the timetables of airlines that serve SJI (Zest Airways, PAL and Cebu Pacific) call this airport "McGuire Field" either. I propose a move to San Jose Airport (Mindoro) or San Jose Airport (Occidental Mindoro), as per WP:UCN. -- Dakilang Isagani (talk) 04:14, 6 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Weak Support: However the article was previously entitled San Jose Airport (Occidental Mindoro) but moved by User:Sky Harbor with the following explanation: (moved San Jose Airport (Occidental Mindoro) to Mcguire Field: Most websites refer to the airport as such, with San Jose Airport in proper footing.).   • Oppose There are airport information pages which use this name: World Aero Data for one appends this name to its information page on the airport in San Jose, Mindoro. This also sets a precedent as well: though the CAAP doesn't call the airports in Ozamiz, Mati, San Jose (Antique), Vigan and Bongao (among others) after their respective names as used in Wikipedia, if we move solely on that basis, then we have to move those articles as well simply because they did not appear in any document by the CAAP or the airlines.   • Comment: San Jose Airport IS common usage though, both coloquially and legally. For one, it's a proper airport, and not just a 'field.' The "McGuire Field" name belongs to the era of American military presence in the country, just like "Tambler Airport" (Gen. Santos Int'l), "Nichols Field" (Villamor Airbase/NAIA), "Wallace Air Station" (San Fernando Airport) or "Naval Air Station Cubi Point" (Subic Bay Int'l). Plus, unlike Clark, the 'McGuire Field' name never really caught on - if it did then we'd see signs calling this airport by the said name (which we don't). Also: the World Aero Data website actually does not even mention 'McGuire Field' in the page, contrary to what was pointed out. And even if it did, then why are we not using "Clark International Airport" or "Tambler Airport" as the main article titles for DMIA and GSIA respectively? There is clearly no problem keeping the names for Ozamiz-Labo, Daet-Bagasbas, or Baguio-Loakan, Camiguin-Mambajao, Marinduque-Gasan, Romblon-Tablas as they actually indicate more specific (or more general) geographical names, which are not altogether incorrect. Same with Godofredo P. Ramos (Caticlan), Imelda Marcos (Mati) or Daniel Romualdez (Tacloban), which are formal names backed by legislation. But with "McGuire Field," not only is it neither common in usage nor formal/official, it's not really meeting any criterion for article naming conventions. What we are establishing here is what the most common name for this airport is so as to provide an appropriate title recognized by readers, which is the point of WP:UCN.     • Surprisingly the airlines haven't moved on: Philippine Airlines and Zest Airways still list the airport as McGuire Field. PAL does this in the flight status and interactive timetable windows (alongside San Jose Airport), while Zest does this when you book a flight. --Sky Harbor (talk) 15:49, 9 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • One more good reason to move the article to a more appropriate title: the name "McGuire Field" only ever gets used in very obscure circumstances, whereas "San Jose Airport" clearly is the preferred and more common name. -- Dakilang Isagani (talk) 06:33, 10 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment: Another source (Pacific Wrecks) clearly says that McGuire Field is no longer the name of the airport. It's now San Jose Airport. If all of the arguments I presented here are not enough evidence, then I don't know what is. -- Dakilang Isagani (talk) 08:48, 14 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
