This entry has been repeatedly spammed by Jason Bennett and his supporters. If this spam appears again, it should be deleted. Mr. Bennett's Wikipedia entry has been deleted for not being notable and his spam has been removed many times. Please help keep Wikipedia a place for sharing information not advertising. Article needs fixing

This article is far too praising of Meisner to be considered even remotely neutral. It even reads like an advertisement for his technique! This might be great for a Meisner acting class, but for Wikipedia it's definitely no good. The sources used are also far from neutral, written by adherents and believers of this technique. • There are several Meisner Teachers in New York City, still teaching Meisner's techniques for acting. They are (according to Meisner himself) Bob Modica, William Alderson, Bill Esper, Ron Stetson, and Richard Pinter.

There are opposing factions in terms of acting schools, and as I said below when content comes in created by an anon on one acting school who then deletes other content about other teachers, I tend to be a little suspicious. Sources are needed for all of this content. Meisner is no longer alive so this isn't a BLP with the urgent sourcing concerns of a BLP. (olive (talk) 20:22, 4 February 2010 (UTC))

The sourcing problems with this article have gone on for a long time. Ten months isn't urgent, but unless material can be sourced it should be removed. FWIW, I presume that the sentence above concerns living people.   Will Beback  talk  20:31, 4 February 2010 (UTC)

Addition of un sourced content

There have been several additions overtime to this article by opposing parties in terms of Meisner teaching/students technique/schools. The recent long addition must be sourced per WP:RS, WP:VERIFIABLE sources or they should eventually be removed. As well, probably not the best editing move to add content on one school and remove content on other teachers. Please see WP:NPOV. A big chunk was added here: [1]. I suggest just reverting it. Various Meisner teachers and students seem to make edits like this routinely. I watch several bios of acting teachers and none of them have the same problem.   Will Beback  talk  20:10, 4 February 2010 (UTC)

James Carville

Though I can vouch for the fact that James Carville was his life-partner. I'm quite certain that it was not the same person as the political commentator who is married to Mary Matalan. And yet his link leads to the same person.

My memory is not good about Jim but I'm pretty sure I knew him better than Sandy (who I didn't know at all), how I don't recall. I do remember a scene of them arguing about something at the St. George Ferry terminal on Staten Island in Sandy's old age.

I think Jim's physical appearance was similar to the other guy though he didn't at the time have the overwhelming loss of hair the other Carville had. Ed (talk) 00:47, 25 December 2012 (UTC)

Notable students

I have been working on the Meisner technique article. All of the actors linked to this article/page are said to have studied this style, only a handful have studied under him directly. This makes the aforementioned list wildly inaccurate. While I did not remove any names, I did remove the citations from the Meisner Technique article that did not provide any pertinent information. I have no issue with maintaining a list of Meisner-trained actors, however, I don't see any need for two lists. I would be more than happy to collaborate with anyone if they are interested. This list of students should be limited to those who have actually trained under Meisner himself, and not those who studied the technique with other acting coaches. I believe that citations are needed for every actor who is attached to this wiki. WriterWithNoName (talk) 12:39, 11 May 2016 (UTC)

It is probable that the majority of actors that didn't enter the business until the 1990's did not train with Meisner himself, and are of dubious value to this article. I abhor lists, and believe that this should be pared down accordingly. WriterWithNoName (talk) 21:41, 15 June 2016 (UTC)

I agree that the list should be pared down to actors who are notable per sources and to those who trained directly under Meisner. Meisner technique is taught by many other people including the present Neighbourhood Playhouse teachers, the legacy of a great teacher. We couldn't begin to list all who have been trained in the technique and many are not notable. A list that is specifically significant to Meisner himself and his teaching per the his biography article is within the remit of our jobs as editors. Adding names of anyone who has studied the technique but not trained by Meisner whether notable or not, is not in my opinion. My time is very limited these days and I doubt I will have time to work on this but I support your efforts at this point.(Littleolive oil (talk) 15:27, 16 June 2016 (UTC))

I have been matching actors to their respective instructors whenever possible. Actors such as Eli Wallach are important to this page, but developing a criteria seems impossible. Most of those listed here have been trained in the technique, however, many have very tenuous connections to Meisner himself. By and large, the majority of source material on this topic comes from the actors web pages, or other promotional material. I'm reluctant to simply wipe the slate clean and start over, but I'm not really making any headway myself. WriterWithNoName (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 16:18, 16 June 2016 (UTC)

Unless they were trained by Meisner I don't think they belong in this article. This article is specifically about Meisner himself so only those actors who worked specifically with the subject of this article are significant. If an actor studied Meisner technique but did not work with Meisner himself and if that content is sourced then it can be added to the actor's article. For example, Eli Wallach's article even if Wallach did not study with Meisner, could say Wallach studied Meisner technique. I actually think its OK to use the actor's website to note training. Primary sources are acceptable if used carefully.(Littleolive oil (talk) 20:32, 16 June 2016 (UTC))

A plurality of the names attached to this article are students of the technique, and not trained by Meisner himself. I have worked piecemeal on the wikis of several acting coaches, but I'm still not up to the taske of dealing with this mess. WriterWithNoName (talk) 19:12, 7 September 2016 (UTC)
