Correction to the timeline and reference to Arrium acquisition: In August 2017, Gupta acquired the Arrium steel and mining business in Australia, encompassing primary steelmaking, recycling, distribution and iron ore mining.[21] The new business is conducted under the Liberty brand. Additional paragraphs proposed to update this section so it is factually correct and up to date: Also in 2017, Gupta – via Liberty – entered the North American market with the acquisition of the Georgetown steelworks[11]. The US presence was extended with Liberty’s acquisition of Export Metals, Tampa, in 2018 [12], before completion of the purchase of Keystone Consolidated Industries, the leading integrated wire rod and wire products producer in the US, in 2019[13]. 1. Green tickY The claim regarding the subject's mother was added to the infobox.
  2. Red XN The other claims were not added. The reasons for this are elaborated upon in the collapsed section of text below titled Proposal counter-suggestions:
Proposal counter-suggestions
Sources

Wikipedia prefers references which are from reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject. Four of the references provided meet this criteria. Those are:

The other references are to publications with links to the steel and metals industry, which does not make them the most unbiased sources. Even in the 4 examples shown above, many of these are based on press releases issued by the company itself.

Coverage of the subject

Much of the requested information concerns the company rather than the subject of Gupta. Claims which may be added to the article ought to be concerning Gupta rather than Gupta's company. Information about Gupta's charitable work is not usually added unless the coverage is substantial and the work is independently notable in Wikipedia.

Re-writing the proposal

To that end, kindly rewrite your proposed text, taking care to ensure that the proposal contains the following:

  1. Claims about Gupta rather than the company
  2. References to reliable secondary sources which are independent of Gupta, the company or the company's industry
  3. Dates of publications used as references and any author information needs to be included in the source citations.

Follow-up questions on proposed bio changes[edit]

--Ben at GFG (talk) 03:13, 20 November 2019 (UTC) Thank you [[User talk:Spintendo| Spintendo ] for your advice. I will review and adjust my changes and resubmit, however I have some follow up questions for you. The biography as it currently stands includes: a) references/citations to corporate website and brochures and b) references to company activity. Part of my initial proposed changes were to reflect updated company facts and figures (eg, size of the company) to ensure factual accuracy, and to update the existing company activity timeline so it is current. My intent is to bring existing content that is in the bio (which include company activities) up to date, rather than introduce new types of content altogether. Can you advise how best I can do this given your earlier advice - it seems contrary given the content is already published as part of the current bio. Look forward to hearing from you :) Ben at GFG (talk) 03:13, 20 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Please note that unless the edit request template is placed in your post, messages to me will not be received. With regards to your question above, my review pertains only to items listed in the request, and does not concern items already implemented in the article. Thus, if your request is to modify information which is about a company in the article, and my understanding of guidelines is that company information should be limited in BLP articles, the change cannot be made by me.

  • The requested prose states that Gupta himself is the one who purchased many of these companies, when the references state that the purchaser was GFG Alliance. That would make this information germane to an article on GFG Alliance rather than Gupta himself.
  • In the awards section, the subject Industrial Cadets has not been Wikilinked.
  • The charity section is germane to an article on the GFG Foundation.
