Doesn't appear to be a notable topic[edit]

In the context of textiles, I cannot find any significant coverage in Japanese texts that describe this material as anything more than "bleached cloth". This usage contrasts with the sense "unbleached cloth", as seen in this online shop posting for a coffee filter made of unbleached cotton, described in Japanese as 未晒し木綿 (mi-sarashi momen, literally "unbleached cotton").

Looking beyond textiles, sarashi more generally means "exposure, exposing, such as to sun or weather or public opinion", as the roughly-gerundive stem of the verb sarasu ("to expose"). Sarashi can also refer more specifically to doxing, or to public humiliation as a form of punishment.

My earlier nomination of this article for AfD was prompted by the article's wholly spurious content at that time. Later edits revised the content to at least be ballpark-correct, albeit minimal, and the AfD discussion ended with "no consensus". However, evaluating the sources listed showed that all were little more than mentions in passing, and that all either seemed confused (mistaking the material for the usage thereof), or did nothing more than define the term. Considering WP:NOTDICT and the lack of significant coverage as stated in WP:GNG, I still don't think this merits an article. ‑‑ Eiríkr Útlendi │^{Tala við mig} 19:56, 9 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I'll second this.

I will say that sarashi do seem to be a contextually-specific thing for wearing kimono. I can't remember a source off the top of my head, but I know I've seen it mentioned by other people in various kimono-wearing groups I'm in. However, it's minor enough that it could be incorporated into the kimono page next to underwear; it really doesn't warrant its own article. --Ineffablebookkeeper (talk) 14:07, 16 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I've run across many cases where English-language writers have used the term sarashi to refer to a garment, when what they're really talking about is a haramaki made from "bleached cloth". I'd be super appreciative if you know of any clear Japanese-language source (or ideally multiple sources) using the term sarashi to mean a specific garment, rather than the material the garment is made from. ‑‑ Eiríkr Útlendi │^{Tala við mig} 00:22, 17 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
