Sattari / Satari[edit]

It seems a range of editors want to change the spelling of Sattari to Satari to make way for somewhere closer to home (Sattari, Malda). Rather than constant disruptive editing of this page, removing any references that go against what you want, how about you discuss it clearly here and post some reliable sources rather than swathes of travel sites, or WP:UGC rehashes of the same census information. As per WP:UCRN, the name of an article should be what most reliable sources use for the place, rather than necessarily an official name. Spike 'em (talk) 11:25, 20 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I have moved a couple of sections to keep in one place. Also please note that JMM000 has been blocked for being a sockpuppet. Spike 'em (talk) 11:59, 1 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

You've just listed 4 sites twice each, and it is not possible to see who runs at least 3 of them to tell if they are really reliable. I am willing to accept that the Indian census lists the district as Satari, but that does not mean that is its WP:COMMONNAME. Even if you succeed in getting this page moved to Satari, you then need to prove that the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC for Sattari is your place and that it shouldn't either redirect to Satari, or be turned into a disambiguation page. Spike 'em (talk) 17:16, 26 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
A google search for "Sattari Malda" -wiki finds 2000 results, "Sattari Goa" -wiki finds 17,000. Without the quotes finds approx 237,000 for Malda or West Bengal and 937,000 for Goa. On that basis the place in Goa is the Primary Topic of the 2. Spike 'em (talk) 17:23, 26 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
And if a bit of WP:REFBOMBING is needed : 1, 2, 3, 4, 5
I saw it.But there are only news not a governmental source because Indian is believe only governmental sources. And 'Satari' is a sub district or administrative division of North Goa state of Goa.It is not a municipality or city.I request you to read all information about 'Satari.I hope you will read. JMM000 (talk) 17:50, 26 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Why are news sources not valid? They show what the WP:COMMMONNAME of the place is. The governmental name for the place is relevant, but is not the deciding factor in what the article is called. You really should read some of the wikipedia guidelines and use them as part of your arguments, not just keep spamming random people to get the pages moved. It is interesting that you should use the Times of India, as they can't decide between Sattari or Satari either: Search ToI for Sattari and Search ToI for Satari both find articles though the first finds 280ish and the second 6. Even more interesting is that NONE of the first few pages of articles that mention Sattari are in relation to the place in West Bengal. This is clear evidence that the Primary Topic for Sattari should not be Sattari, Malda. Spike 'em (talk) 14:15, 27 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Dear, Sir [Spike 'em]]

Are believe Google Maps? JMM000 (talk) 18:46, 28 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I believe it should be taken into account with appropriate weight along with the other sources. I still think that even if this article is moved to Satari, that the main usage of Sattari will be for the place in Goa, and you won't be justified in moving Sattari, Malda over the top of a redirect. Spike 'em (talk) 19:21, 28 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Based on this story I'd regard Google Maps as verging on WP:UGC and hence not a WP:RS. Spike 'em (talk) 20:35, 9 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose as per discussion above, the place is known as both Sattari and Satari, and proposer has not provided any proof that "Satari" is the WP:COMMONNAME. They seem to want to move the page to make way for Sattari, Malda. If this is the case, then the move of that page should be included here. Even if this page is moved to Satari, I think that the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC for Sattari would still be this page, and hence a redirect left. Spike 'em (talk) 20:04, 26 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose move for lack of rationale. ONR (talk) 21:21, 26 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose, the common name seems to be "Sattari". If Sattari, Malda were moved here, that wouldn't change the spelling of this place, nor would it be evidence that this place is the primary topic for "Satari": it could move over the redirect Sattari, Goa. If neither is primary topic for "Sattari" then the disambiguation page at Satari (disambiguation) (to which Sattari (disambiguation) redirects) could be moved over this: the DAB has nearly equal numbers of entries for each spelling. But perhaps that is the Judgment of Solomon. 94.21.204.175 (talk) 07:35, 27 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
