Tag[edit]

The article seems to be organised/categorised pretty okay, it still needs to undergo a cleanup though. So, I have replaced the Wikify tag with the Cleanup tag. --Madhu 05:35, 25 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Kartavirya Arjuna Descendants[edit]

The wikipedia page "Kartavirya Arjuna" says Kartavirya Arjuna and whole of his generation was killed by Parashuram. Then how savji's are descendants of Kartavirya Arjuna? -- Skhardenavis (talk) 15:05, 6 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Notability[edit]

I am struggling to ascertain notability of this community. I am even wondering whether its myth of origin and claims to the SSK name are tied in so much with sanskritisation that it pretty much didn't even exist until modern times & may exist today mostly just in the eyes of its "believers", ie: the various SSK groups as listed in External links section. The (unsourced) statement "The community has never had an official caste census." rather buttresses this because the Brits were mad-keen on classification by caste in their various decennial counts etc.

Should this article even exist when there are no reliable sources for the SSK term via Google Books/Google Search, and practically none for "Savji"? - Sitush (talk) 19:25, 29 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Surnames[edit]

We have an unsourced list of alleged community surnames in this article. Generally, we delete these are being original research and also trivia. As with many lists of names, they also tend to be incomplete and subject to much petty edit warring. Several IPs in the last few minutes have been reinstating this list, which makes me think that there may be some sockpuppetry or meatpuppetry going on - this is also contrary to our policies.

If you want to include a list of names then please provide a reliable source that allows verifiability, and preferably not a caste association. Thanks. - Sitush (talk) 09:57, 13 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! I'd created the page on Savji community 8 years ago and its morphed beyond belief. We are a very tiny community (maybe 100,000 or so) and I am trying to figure out our origins, etc. Also, just because the British did not include us in their census does not mean that we do not exist. Maybe we were clubbed along with some other community for e.g. Pategars. You are an expert in castes/communities in India and I request your help in trying to figure out the links to our past. Can we interact via regular email ? Thanks. Smiskin.

I'm no expert, although I do have a fair amount of experience of the issues as they operate on Wikipedia. Caste-related content is notoriously tricky here and for that reason we tend to insist on applying policies such as verifiability and reliable sourcing quite strictly. I', not sure that there is much out there regarding the Savji but, sure, I'll spend some time looking again. - Sitush (talk) 15:45, 12 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The Savji (or Saoji, Souji[1] or Sauji) are an Indian caste. They claim descent from the mythological Puranic king Sahasrārjuna.

"Please include 'Savaji' along with Saoji, Souji or Sauji because in many parts of Karnataka this community is called 'Savaji'."

SSK[edit]

This article has long been problematic because of people synthesising sources. Unless we have reliable, independent sources that verify the various names, we can't assume that they are synonymous. In particular, this is a perpetual problem for silly glorification claims involving the word kshatriya across numerous castes. If I remember correctly, if was such claims that caused this thing to end up under protection measures. - Sitush (talk) 18:53, 26 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
