"Multi-use trail" redirected to an article only about bicycling (Fixed)[edit]

The recent headwaters-toward-confluence overhaul by Krimpet was a good idea.

Here is a minor thing that I should look at more later. Multi-use trail currently redirects to Segregated cycle facilities, which (upon scanning) seems to be all about bicycling and not about walking, jogging, hiking, rollerblading, and other trail uses. (I lack time to read it line-by-line at the moment.) I may reinsert the line here about all the things "multi-use" entails (not just bicycling). But for now I really need to stop indulging my WP habit and get back to work! Lumbercutter 14:04, 22 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah I figured it would be good to go west-east, following the standard of highway articles and also providing more opportunity for expansion as the remainder of the segments are completed. You made a good point about multi-use trail redirecting to segregated cycle facilities; I edited the redirect to point to Trail#Multi-use trails, which while sparse right now gives a better description of the multi-use nature and could be expanded. Merge[edit]

  • Support, Schuylkill Banks and the Schuylkill River Trail are one in the same south of the Art Museum. Krimpet 16:56, 25 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose. The Schuykill Banks article does not capture the entire developement project topic (see the external link there). If the article were expanded, it would not be a merge candidate. Unless there is an SRDC article. --J Clear 13:21, 18 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. It makes no sense to combine the 140 mile entirety of the trail with a page featuring the 27mile Phoenixville-Philadelphia section. 9:56, 24 July 2015 (UTC)

Trail nomenclature variations[edit]

I just added the following: "On many maps and street atlases, and on some of the trail's signage, the segment between Philadelphia and Valley Forge is still identified by the name Philadelphia–Valley Forge Trail." This is notable. I know that some editors are going to want to delete this because it's an outdated name. But it's important to realize that people who are unfamiliar with the trail and the area (which is a big reason for reading this article in the first place) are going to see the name "Philadelphia–Valley Forge Trail" on maps and even on some of the trail's signage itself, and it's a good idea to clarify for them that yes, it's the same trail. — Lumbercutter 17:10, 12 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Seems reasonable. But you forgot to dot the i and create this redirect Philadelphia–Valley Forge Trail, which is SOP when an article covers a topic with multiple names.--J Clear 18:23, 12 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Good idea. Thanks. — Lumbercutter 22:27, 12 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
While it's notable, and I can personally confirm that I've seen this name is in use, it's important to find a reliable source that confirms this. Krimpet (talk) 22:31, 12 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Good idea. Done. Thanks. — Lumbercutter 23:26, 12 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

National Recreation Trail designation[edit]

Several otherwise good sources are claiming the SRT has a US Department of Interior National Recreation Trail designation. However a search of the NRT database shows only the small portion of the trail in Schuylkill Banks is so designated. On the other hand, the Schuylkill River Water Trail is listed as a NRT for the the whole river. --J Clear (talk) 12:23, 17 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Schuylkill River Trail - Valley Forge to Philadelphia[edit]

On many maps, such as Google, the West River Drive trail is marked "Schuylkill River Trail" and the Kelly Drive is marked "Schuylkill River Trail - Valley Forge to Philadelphia," so is the trail on both sides of the river, joining together at the east end of the West River Drive Bridge? I am asking, since bridges show what they cross over, and perhaps I should be showing both for several bridges over the Schuylkill in Fairmount Park.

See this Google Map, which shows trails on both sides of the river.--DThomsen8 (talk) 00:01, 25 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Also, if both sides are trails, where do they split upstream? Perhaps at the Falls Bridge?--DThomsen8 (talk) 00:04, 25 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • In case anyone's still wondering ... yes, a trail does run along the west side of the river between the West River Drive and Falls Bridges. That segment is not shown on the official printed Schuylkill River Trail map (2015 version anyway) so maybe it's not an official segment; however, the west side trail is included on the Schuylkill Banks online map. The west side trail is paved but much more bumpy (tree roots) and less travelled by cyclists than the east side trail. For recreational purposes, the smooth road on the west side of the park is barricaded by police for about a 3 mile stretch on weekend afternoons till 5pm from spring to fall (the entire 4 miles of roadway from bridge-to-bridge are blocked till noon). During those times, motor vehicles may only enter via Montgomery Drive, proceeding @10mph to parking lots. Brian W. Schaller (talk) 04:15, 4 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Schuylkill River Trail - Philadelphia City Line to Phoenixville[edit]

Hi.  I just approved this article and found it does not really fit exactly with this article.  Perhaps Schuylkill River Trail should become a project so that it is cohesive in content and style? :- ) DCS 19:53, 21 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to see a map. --:- ) DCS 20:00, 21 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Other trails in image unclear[edit]

What are the other trails in the image? The area that I am most familiar with on that map doesn't have a trail - there is no trail along Baltimore Ave - unless you count a crappy painted-on lane, and there is nothing from Baltimore Ave. along Cobbs Creek, so the map is inaccurate, and I suspect that there are many other errors, so I'm removing it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.4.243.218 (talk) 22:06, 13 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
