The LA times 1990 series is accessible online for free: an enormous amount of information in a newspaper of record.

The 1998 Boston Herald series, which goes into detail about Scientology-related groups, is reproduced on this site, apparently by permission.

To be fair to both Scientologists and their critics, the article needs to mention the "good works" done in the name of Scientology, including drug "education", disaster relief (e.g. in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks) and "detoxification". The Purification Rundown, Downtown Medical and Narconon articles have relevant text and refs.

Numerous media reports are identifiable with the help of the Scientology Library.

The article needs to get rid of links to sources which are not WP:RS (holysmoke.org, antisectes.net, Dave Touretsky's site, for a start) but with these published media sources I think one can back up the same statements. MartinPoulter (talk) 18:38, 27 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I now see that as part of its "Truth Rundown" special, the St. Petersburg Times has made its archive of articles about Scientology freely online at http://www.tampabay.com/specials/2009/reports/project/archive-stories.shtml including its Pulitzer-Prize-winning article from 1979. Legal status[edit]

Scientology has no legal status other than that provided by the US constitution. It's 501(c)(3) status isn't legal recognition of religion. If that's the argument then the World wild life fund would be a religion as well. A Legal recognition of status would be just as unconstitutional as the IRS not allowing them 501(c)(3) status because they feel they aren't a religion.
