Curiosities[edit]

There are three things I would really like to add to this article:

  1. Any information about his kids and marriage
  2. Any information about his religion given the high probability that he is Mormon and served on a mission while an undergraduate
  3. Any information on why he began to serve on June 2, 2008 instead of January 2009.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTM) 15:15, 6 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Added[edit]

I reworded a bit and added that Smith also served as president of Great Western Homes, but I can't figure out how to do the reference: http://www.mesaaz.gov/citymgt/mayorcc/mayor/bio.aspx so here it is for now while I go try to learn how to reference. I also am planning to add a mention of his 2 year mission in Bolivia. --Philosimphy (talk) 02:39, 9 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Result: delist. Significant issues with the GA criteria have been identified, and they have not been fixed in a timely fashion. buidhe 01:45, 29 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Article was promoted 10 years ago. Since then the article has not been properly updated and the prose is in bad shape. Specifically the article fails:

  • Criteria 1 (Well-written): the prose is choppy and in poor condition (i.e. "His first attempt at public office, Smith was the first person since 1966 to be elected mayor of Mesa without having first served on the Mesa City Council."). There are multiple, albeit relatively small, MOS issues throughout.
  • Criteria 2 (Verification): there are a number of unsourced statements in the article, as well as bare urls citations (notably in the "Early life and education" and "Mayor of Mesa (2008-present)" sections).
  • Criteria 3 (Broadness): the coverage of his run for governor is severely lacking and the article does not include any details after this. He currently is the CEO of Valley Metro and took over after a serious scandal occurred with the former CEO. This needs a serious update and expansion.

I don't believe this lives up to the criteria anymore. « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 18:23, 13 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • I have felt like that for a long time about this articles as more and more other editors have gotten involved.-TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 05:18, 18 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delist I completely agree with the nominator. The article is not up to GA standards. The prose is choppy and there are several very short paragraphs and sections. "Personal life" is one sentence and omits information listed in the infobox. There are many unsourced statements throughout the article. The article needs a lot of clean-up.
