Reasons for a 12 club table[edit]

The Article contains no information as to why there are only 12 clubs in the top flight, which of course creates the problem of clubs playing each other twice at home and once away, a problem which is not properly solved by the existing arrangement. A perfect solution would be to extend the top flight to 18 clubs (34 games per season, 17 at home 17 away). But again the Article contains no rundown as to the background whereby this hasn't been done. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.36.130.238 (talk) 19:32, 11 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

– I think the football competition, although much newer than the Scottish Premiership (rugby) competition, is clearly the primary topic. It has many times more page views (10500 compared to a few hundred in the last 30 days) and dominates the search results. Jmorrison230582 (talk) 16:29, 3 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

There's now new logos for what is now the Ladbrokes Premiership & the other SPFL leagues so this requires changing on all the relevant topics, you can see the new logo for the Premiership at the top left of the page at http://spfl.co.uk/premiership/ & the other logos on the relevant pages for each league on there. Split : True or false section?[edit]

I dont understand the split thing at all. Why do some teams play at home twice and away only once? Doesnt that imbalance the season? Also, what does it mean for the league to split and for the top half to not play the bottom half? This all sounds like nonsense. Is this true or has someone made this section up? If it has just been made up, which it looks like, then this article needs re-doing. 213.114.17.89 (talk) 21:02, 12 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

True (and has been since 2000/01) Jmorrison230582 (talk) 21:16, 12 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

All-Time table is missing[edit]

I noticed that misses an all-time table of both Premiership from 2013 and scottish top level league from 19th century that is present in articles about competitions such as the FIFA World Cup, FIFA Club World Cup and leagues such as the Bundesliga.

I found this source https://www.worldfootball.net/alltime_table/sco-premiership/

In the main article about Scottish Premiership of the spanish Wikipedia there is a table that arrived to 2016-2017. Angel Millo (talk) 11:09, 1 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the ref. The all time table would not be appropriate for this article as it is specifically about the Premiership from 2013-14 onwards, but there are other articles on the entire history which could get this table added (or maybe some text and a link to the source, since it's a lot of work to add it - but maybe the existing table on eswiki could be translated for that.) Crowsus (talk) 13:19, 1 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your response [User:Crowsus|Crowsus]. Well, I think could be appropriate a table about the Premiership itself. I mean from 2013 onwards as well as one for that of 1998-2013 and that about the First Division as top level.

For example in the Argentina's league's article there is a table about amateur lesgue pre1930 and that lf the proffesional league of 1930 onwards an another one with all.

About adding the table that is alredy in the source I think the easiest thing would be to copy a table from another article and editing the info. Angel Millo (talk) 08:04, 2 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Since Cinch was announced as sponsor, there is now a new logo for the league - https://spfl.co.uk/cms-content/images/shares/cinchPrem.png the other leagues also have new logos - https://spfl.co.uk/cms-content/images/shares/cinchChamp.png https://spfl.co.uk/cms-content/images/shares/cinchL1.png https://spfl.co.uk/cms-content/images/shares/cinchL2.png (82.44.252.223 (talk) 21:34, 14 June 2021 (UTC))[reply]

Wealthiest domestic sports league among sub-10million countries[edit]

Is worth making the observation that the Scottish Premiership ranks as the World's wealthiest domestic sports league for countries of fewer than 10 million people? It may seem trivial but it's perhaps a reminder of how important football is in this country.

It is also second only to Ireland's top Gaelic football championship in terms of attendance figures for a sub-10million sports league.

Merge with SPL?[edit]

Since the Scottish Premiership is the successor to the Scottish Premier League and the SPL merged with the Scottish Football League to form the Scottish Professional Football League which is the corporate body of the Scottish Premiership and they are in effect the same completion with almost identical formats and inherited broadcast deals, there is an argument that the two articles are merged. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Stravastalker (talkcontribs) 02:26, 4 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
