Original research[edit]

While this article is very interesting and a splendid piece of work, it worries me that it seems largely to be based on primary sources and therefore seems to contravene WP:OR. Can we replace some of this with reliable secondary sources?--SabreBD (talk) 14:21, 14 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The above comment is entirely fair, and secondary references would very much enhance the article. On the other hand, the published primary source mainly used, the Scottish Treasurer's Accounts is readily accessible, and does not have the character of the published primary sources particularly mentioned in WP:OR, being a bald and undisputed financial record, rather than the testimony of contemporary diaries or newsletters. Of course, statements made about its content may fall into error, but the historian does not have to contend with any contemporary bias. The Treasurer's Accounts are merely the synopsis of a pile of receipts.Unoquha (talk) 19:08, 14 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
