Given name[edit]

It's mostly an Ukrainian name -- take a look at the list of people, it's almost all Ukrainians (which, with Ukraine's past as a part of Russia/Soviet Union, is not exclusive with being considered a Russian).

Names are at least primarily spoken, thus Semen is not merely a transliteration of Семен, it's the same word. On the other hand, it is distinct from Семён (Semyon) where the confusion comes only from Russians often not writing the umlaut on ё (yo).

Should we even mention Симон (Simon)? I don't see anyone confusing these, these names merely have common etymology. - KiloByte (talk) 12:39, 10 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
