Date of birth[edit]

A quick Google search reveals that Pérez's date of birth is either December 26, 1989, or January 26, 1990. Does anyone have a reliable source for this information?--Midgrid(talk) 20:46, 21 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

GP2 website has January 26, 1990. [1] Cs-wolves(talk) 03:21, 22 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ferrari[edit]

Italian sport media , publish the news that Perez will become part of Ferrari Junior Academy since 2011 , as well. Is it correct ? It might be possible to mention it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.13.131.64 (talk) 13:05, 15 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Subjective Comments[edit]

I removed subjective comments such as "he performed admirably being only 2 tenths of Kobayashi's qualification time" from the article. It didn't set a parameter to compare, it didn't take into account the fact that tracks get faster with more rubber on them, and it sounded more like fanboyism than an objective comment worth of an encyclopedia —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.105.183.186 (talk) 18:18, 22 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

They seem to be creeping into the 2012 season section as well. Looks like we'll have to keep an eye on this and possibly other driver pages as well (Maldonado's being one that springs to mind). WelshDaveRyan (talk) 19:52, 8 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

After each race, you'll find quite a lot of this kind of thing. Maybe a day or two afterwards, it's worth going over the changes to driver articles to prune out all the fanboy guff that creeps in. Words like "admirably" are always a no-no. Bretonbanquet (talk) 19:57, 8 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Similar to subjective comments[edit]

I removed "Previously, Sauber had only lead two laps in its entire history, (both laps also by Sergio Pérez earlier in the year). ". It's probably not true. Certainly not true if you include BMW Sauber as Sauber. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ei2g (talkcontribs) 14:22, 16 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Covid[edit]

Please do not add speculation or any unnecessary information to the 2020 tab of this page. Joseph.smith595959 (talk) 21:59, 31 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

2021 RB team[edit]

I reverted these edits because Perez still hasn't been announced as their second driver. If anyone has an RS that would suggest otherwise, please let me know. Snowmaninblack (talk) 19:56, 16 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Details included in lead[edit]

The lead currently includes some information which would seem far better suited for the body of the article, particularly the section reading "a drive which won him plaudits and fuelled speculation of a move to Ferrari in the near future. However, Pérez later told reporters that he expected to stay with Sauber until at least the end of the 2012 season." which isn't especially relevant to the lead (especially nearly nine years later) since he never did move to Ferrari and he did stay at Sauber until the end of 2012. Beyond this, the lead seems overly focused on details of his contracts, which are probably better suited for the body of the text, and not on his actual racing career.

I'm not really sure how it would be best to rewrite it, but if anyone has any ideas I'd like to hear them. Regardless, it feels like a lot of the information in the lead has been held over from when it may have been more relevant and the result is that it reads quite awkwardly. I did a slight copyedit to try and rectify some of this, but right now it's a bit of a mess. HumanBodyPiloter5 (talk) 12:20, 19 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Change the image Carrcus (talk) 13:40, 15 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. Please provide an image with an acceptable license. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 13:47, 15 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Carrcus: FYI, Wikipedia can only use freely-licensed images - not just any image that we can find on the Internet (see Wikipedia:Image use policy for further information). As such, our choice of images for Pérez's infobox is effectively limited to the ones within this directory structure. I'd argue that the current image is the best of those available. Addition of Abu Dhabi 2021.[edit]

Pérez' defence against Hamilton was crucial for his teammate's title. And he was running in a podium position all race long, plus could've jumped Hamilton with the fresher tyres before the retirement. Basically he was applauded for his defense and teamwork which in my opinion is worthy of being in the article. Nicenicey18 (talk) 09:53, 6 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Feel free to add a sentence at the end of the 2021 section. SSSB (talk) 10:03, 7 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Done, thanks. Added a bit more as well. Added Verstappen's quotes on him as well. Nicenicey18 (talk) 14:08, 7 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I've cut it down. The amount you added was WP:UNDUE. SSSB (talk) 16:35, 7 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Noted and thanks. Still learning as I'm new here. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nicenicey18 (talkcontribs) 03:23, 9 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Adding Pole Position to the main paragraph.[edit]

The Pole Position record is pretty special too and in my opinion should be added to the main paragraph. This is a really high profile article so suggesting my suggestion here before doing it. Please do add it as I think it deserves a mention as well. Nicenicey18 (talk) 09:04, 27 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Nicenicey18:  Done SSSB (talk) 14:02, 27 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@SSSB: Thanks and added more details and cited source. Nicenicey18 (talk) 02:28, 28 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Racing Point to RBR Timeline Confusion[edit]

I think this sentence is unnecessarily confusing/unclear about the timeline of the subject's transition from Racing Point to Red Bull Racing:

"In December, Pérez signed with Red Bull Racing for the 2021 season, following his maiden Formula One win at the 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix; Verstappen's teammate, Alex Albon, was demoted to test and reserve at Red Bull.[11]"

In my opinion, this is much more clear:

"Pérez won his maiden Formula 1 victory at the 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix, following an announcement that Racing Point would not be renewing his contract with him for the 2021 season. Nearly two weeks after this victory, on Friday, December 18th, Red Bull Racing revealed that Pérez would be replacing driver Alex Albion at Red Bull, who had been demoted to test driver. [11]"

This is easier to follow as it is no longer a run-on sentence and eliminates more than one confusing timeline jump. It also reveals that there was a sizable gap after Pérez won his first Grand Prix that he did not publicly have a driving seat for the following year. 68.187.65.176 (talk) 12:55, 31 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Both are badly worded. The use of "following" implies that his maiden win was somehow relevant to either his signing with Red Bull (first version) or Racing Point not renewing a contract (second version). However, no relationship exists (at the very least there is no evidence of a relationship). As we detail his maiden win earlier in the lead, I have removed all reference of it when talking about his move to Red Bull. Mentioning he replaced Albon, and where Albon would go is also excessive detail for lead (which should cover the main talking points). I have changed it simply too state: "In December, Pérez signed with Red Bull Racing for the 2021 season." SSSB (talk) 19:31, 31 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
