Plagarism accusation[edit]

Does anybody remember, way back in the 80s, that some unknown songwriter claimed Ric Ocasek had flat-out plagarized this song from him? The guy claimed he had sent a tape of his (or his band), with the song on it, to the Cars's private studio, Syncro (many artists did, when the band was actively using Syncro, and some of them got the attention they needed) -- and next thing he knew, a facsimile of the song became the Cars's biggest hit to date. All I remember is reading about it in the newspaper in the 1980s; I've never come across any online mention of the accusation. Anyone?

I don't buy it for a second, by the way -- Ocasek is and was far too prolific and too talented to bother plagarizing.

History[edit]

"He plays first a Fender Telecaster in a style skewing "country", then midway through the solo switches to a Gibson Crank to sound more rock."
