The name Ardnacrusha[edit]

Erm, this article is missing the fact that Ardnacrusha is the name of the village where the power plant is, and was there several centuries before so. --11:09, 18 August 2005 (UTC)

New title[edit]

Most of this article is about the Shannon Scheme and its effects - little to do with the power station. So I propose to rename it as "Shannon hydroelectric scheme". Many of the other links on WP use this and it's more explicit and less mysterious than "Shannon Scheme" which is what it was usually referred to years ago. I think the change will make it more relevant both to Irish and international readers. I don't propose to change the infobox again. Chris55 (talk) 10:40, 11 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

"At the time, it was the largest hydroelectric station in the world"[edit]

I just left a "citation needed" mark at Electrifying Ireland section, as there is no evidence it was the largest hydro power station in the world at the time. In fact, Sir Adam Beck Hydroelectric Generating Stations was the largest and it was suppressed by the Hoover Dam, according to the Timeline of the largest power plants in the world^[1].

Project inspiration error[edit]

The article says, in the Background section, "The first plan to harness the Shannon's power ... was published in 1844 ... Inspired by Nikola Tesla's 1896 project at Niagara Falls..."

Nikola Tesla wasn't even born in 1844 therefore that year's plan could not have been inspired by him, nor by his 1896 project. O'Dea (talk) 03:03, 3 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
