Some confusion over who commanded the Chechen forces[edit]

This Wikipedia article states the ambush forces were commanded by the foreign Jihadist, Khattab. However, Anatol Lieven, in his book 'Chechnya: tombstone of Russian Power', says it was the Chechen field commander Ruslan Gelayev. Not sure how this discrepancy has originated. Lieven might just have got his facts wrong. Any ideas anyone? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.138.98.253 (talk) 09:50, 30 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Russian name[edit]

I suggest this article has to be renamed, because in Russia this action is known as Yaryshmardy Ambush or Yaryshmardy Battle (see article in Russian Wikipedia). The number of killed Russian soldiers is uncertain, different sources give figures of 53 or 95 killed and it seems that no one knows why. 195.248.189.182 08:31, 25 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That's what I thought, too. The figure of 72 killed is used too. Some Russian sources say 52 wounded, some only 8 survivors. --84.234.60.154 (talk) 14:16, 18 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Who was the Russian commander?[edit]

Major Pyotr Terzovets (Russian: Пётр Терзовец). He was the major officer in the column. KIA at the beginning of the battle. 195.248.189.182 09:16, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Khattab's triumph video[edit]

where can I see the famous video that got Khattab his notoriety because all I can see in the videos is the explosion and not him in it at all. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.35.33.72 (talk) 00:08, 5 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sources say it was on sale on marketplaces in Grozny ;) --84.234.60.154 (talk) 14:14, 18 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"according to the Russian wikipedia"[edit]

Indeed. Removed. :bloodofox: (talk) 01:35, 11 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

By the way[edit]

I remember Kuleba writing about an ambush where they (either Khattab's or Basayev's) waited 2 months before finally they got a large convoy of reinforcements (after they struck a helicopter at a base in the mountains killing a visiting general with a mortar round). I remember something about the last vehicle escaping through the river. Anyone recalls something like this? He also wrote about an incident where the Russians caught a large group of popular militia in the open and killed 100 of them, and more. --84.234.60.154 (talk) 19:16, 18 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
