SWP[edit]

The "Hadashot Arkheologiyot" can be seriously irritating at times; like here, where they state that the SWP found potsherds from Byzantine and Ottoman periods ...but do not give the source!! Arrgh. ..And it is not in SWP I, p147 (the only SWP-ref. given in Petersen.)...I´ve tried searching, to no avail....Huldra (talk) 04:02, 24 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

bits and pieces[edit]

Census 1931. For Danun: 39 occupied houses, 155 Muslims; for Dawud: 48 occupied houses, 222 Muslims. These villages were very close, less than half km.
1945 village statistics includes Sheikh Dannun with other locations so no precise statistics
Grootkerk (16-17) says "French stronghold 1799", so some story is missing. The name on a French map of the time was Cheik Denou, maybe that helps to search.

French text from Dauphin: "Sur colline rocheuse en bord de plaine, localité antique (333 x 150 ml 45 dunams). Fondements; amoncellements de pierres. Trois pressoirs à huile. Trois citernes. Tombes decoupées dans roc avec loculi, dont tombe décorée d'une croix gravée. Une tombe est précédée d'une cour carrée; contient trois arcosolia, un dans chaque mur sauf mur d'entrée. Grottes." A rough translation would read: "On a rocky hill bordering the plain, ancient locality (333 x 150 ml 45 dunams). Grounds; drifts of stones. Three oil presses. Three cisterns. Tombs carved in rock with loculi, of which tomb decorated with an engraved cross. A tomb preceded by a square courtyard; contains three arcosolia, one in each wall with the excetption of the entrance wall. Grottos." Tiamut^talk 10:13, 26 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

On the Jacotin, 1826, map (Acre; Nazareth, Jordain-section), there is "Cheik Daoud", and, just south of it: "Cheik Denou". Is it possible to get a "cutout" of that map, to add to the article? When I tried to do make a cutout, I messed up... Cheers, Huldra (talk) 14:27, 25 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Also, many villagers from Al-Ghabisiyya settled in Sheikh Danun after 1948, as Present absentees. It should be mentioned somewhere. Oh, and what is the date of the Claudine Dauphin-publication?
