History of the name[edit]

I came to this wiki page to look for the history/etymology of the place name. If there is some interesting history behind the name, it would be a great inclusion. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 37.152.44.202 (talk) 08:47, 25 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Wharf Road[edit]

The article mentions that Wharf Road has a slipway. It certainly has a boat house (which might have a slipway inside) but I am not sure about a slipway directly off the end of Wharf Road at the river's side - at least not nowadays....Longfinal (talk) 23:02, 13 December 2014 (UTC)Longfinal (talk) 20:46, 15 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Shillingford Bridge Hotel[edit]

Whilst Shillingford Bridge Hotel sounds as if it is in Shillingford, technically this hotel is not in Shillingford as the Parish Boundary runs down the middle of the River Thames and this parish boundary can been clearly seen on any OS map. As the hotel is on the opposite bank of the river from Shillingford, the hotel thus lies in the Parish of Brightwell cum Sotwell - not Shillingford. The text has been changed accordingly. The Kingfisher[edit]

The Kingfisher is described as a 'Public House'. It is not; the Kingfisher is a 'Guest House' Cite error: There are <ref> tags on this page without content in them (see the help page). http://www.kingfisher-inn.co.uk/ and is not, therefore, open to the public. The text has been changed accordingly.Longfinal (talk) 20:59, 15 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Homes being 'contiguous' with Warborough[edit]

As a resident of Shillingford, I question this statement. It is true that Thame Road runs up to New Road in Shillingford but there is a physical gap between the last house in Warborough and the first in Shillingford along Thame Road. There is not a solid line of houses on either side of the road linking the two places. At the time of writing, the closure of this accepted 'gap' between Warborough and Shillingford by a proposed development in the adjacent Plough Field has been the subject of a heated planning debate, the application of which has been presently withdrawn (and this development in Plough Field is also contrary to the Warborough and Shillingford Neighbourhood Plan Cite error: There are <ref> tags on this page without content in them (see the help page).http://www.southoxon.gov.uk/services-and-advice/planning-and-building/planning-policy/neighbourhood-plans/warborough-and-shillin).Longfinal (talk) 21:07, 15 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Homes in Shillingford being contiguous with Warborough[edit]

I am not sure what is going on here. Someone/thing is reverting my text on the main page. In addition, StudiesWorld is sending me a message about an unverified source... but does not say what it is or where it is in the text. Please indicate where the problem is so that I can look into it further and fix it if it is wrong. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Longfinal (talkcontribs) 21:22, 20 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
