shikona[edit]

It would seem, as per this page from the sumo association, http://sumo.goo.ne.jp/ozumo_meikan/aiueo/aiueo.php?kana=si, that the first o in his name is the elongated one, not the second, so I changed moved the article thusly. It is going to take a little time and concentration to fix all the redirects, but I love tweaking that stuff, so... Malnova 18:56, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, after looking again, I see that, indeed, the second o is long. If it helps any, I am doing this at 3-4 am, because I couldn't sleep. I'll be more careful in the future; and I'll fix all the redirects, sorry. Malnova 19:03, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Would you believe that he's dropped the "o" and changed his name back to Shimotori! How inconvenient. I would move the page back myself but I'm not sure there should be a macron or not... Pawnkingthree (talk) 21:27, 25 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wonder what the story is. I'll check it out and do the RDs. Actually, having said that, he changed his name as he was starting to find success getting into Makuuchi; his elders probably said, you really need to have your a distinct shikona now you are in the big leagues. He then went on to do pretty badly since he has changed it. The sumo world is very superstitious and he probably decided pushing the name thing had given him bad luck and so he reverted.
