updating?[edit]

wouldn't it be more appropriate to list the numbers that are featured in the film, now that they're known, rather than the full setlists for both shows? the list is:

Tour performance??[edit]

This may be quibbling, but the concerts filmed at the Beacon Theater (capacity: 2800) were held solely for the purpose of making the film, while the regular tour dates were in much larger venues like Madison Square Garden and Giants Stadium. The special setup for the filming was described in a short New Yorker piece here: [1]. The first few rows of the audience were hand-picked (sexy ladies of course, not balding ex-hippies who saw the Stones at the Garden in '69), there were 17 movie cameras crammed into the orchestra section--it was almost more a video shoot (albeit on film, not videotape) than a regular concert. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.86.248.1 (talk) 13:04, 31 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

right to all of the above: ceci n'est-ce pas un Stones concert; it's a big-name-directed film documenting two performances that took place during the Stones' Bigger Bang tour. what is it that you want changed in the article? Scorsese uses actors in nearly all of his films, by the way - what's unusual about this one is that some ordinary fans were also allowed to buy tickets ... oh and the Stones were allowed to play themselves. 8)

pardon my levity - i do agree that this is a documentary of a film being made, and by a celebrated director at that, rather than a documentary of a "regular" 2006 Stones concert. but i'm not sure what you want to change in the article. Sssoul (talk) 14:21, 31 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

[from original poster] I didn't mean to sound like I objected to the concept of a specially-staged concert, or that I think the enterprise is somehow tainted. I wrote my comment because I thought that a casual reader might assume from the wording that the film depicted just another night on the specific Stones tour mentioned. I'm not a Stones expert, but aren't there a small handful of concert films starting with Gimme Shelter that show the Stones either in large arenas or in outdoor stadiums? My point was that this isn't another one of those (just covering the 2006 tour), but something, like Rock and Roll Circus, that was set up specifically as a film shoot. nope - it was a very different setlist from the "usual" Bigger Bang shows. The Biggest Bang is a mighty fine box set to enjoy in addition to Shine a Light. anyway i hope the article sounds accurate now - i too don't mean the film is "tainted", but agree that it is a document of a movie being made.

I agree it would be completely appropriate to mention in the article that the first few rows were hand picked with attractive young actors and reference it with the New Yorker article. Everyone knows documentaries are artificial but it always interesting to have insights into in what way these are artificial - such as audiences containing plants. about the format[edit]

i've proposed a different format for the notes about who guests on what and which numbers Keith sings - the style with the indents/little squares made it hard to tell what number[s] the notes referred to, especially when "band introductions" were formatted the same way as the guests. (that is: i think with the indent/box style, a reader who didn't know already would have trouble understanding whether the guests are featured on the song[s] before or after they're mentioned, and/or whether the band is introduced during Tumbling Dice.)

i know my proposal isn't as snazzy looking, but i think it's clearer. but if someone changes it back and/or feels it's vital to specify what each guest does: please note that Mr Buddy Guy also shares the lead vocals on Champagne & Reefer (and blows the roof off while he's at it). thanks & swing on ... performance date[edit]

The intro says that all the performance is from the second night, but later it says "most" of the performance is from the second night. Can anyone verify which is correct? Is any footage from 10/29/06? I think not but am not sure I can verify.
