Yaakov Shwekey in Miami Boys Choir?

Hello,

Are you really sure that Yaakov Shwekey was a member of the Miami Boys Choir when he was a boy???? i'm asking that because I have absolutely all the albums of MBC that were ever produced and I cannot found the name "Yaakov Shwekey" anywhere on the albums, except on the album "Miami 25", but at that time he was already a grown-up!!!

So, if Yaakov Shwekey was really a child-member of the choir, it was under another name?

thank you, i looked again but I couldn't find any boy with the name "Choueka".

I've found some assertions on the web, that he was in the MBC for only few months :

I believe this assertion needs better evidence than a blog site and a freewebs site. I have tagged the sentence accordingly in the article - I had a search on Google and Google News but couldn't find anything suggesting he had sung as a boy in the choir. Mostly Music links

I feel that the links to Mostly Music for each album are not needed and seem to be an advertising move. Is there a general policy on external links to retail sites? If no one objects I will be removing them in a week or two.Joe407 (talk) 13:39, 27 April 2009 (UTC)

After looking at the guidelines, WP:ELNO, I think that these links should be removed under sections 4 & 5. WP:LINKSPAM prohibits leading readers to a specific commercial site. Thoughts?? We could ask for arbitration if you'd like. Joe407 (talk) 21:57, 3 May 2009 (UTC)

The guidelines prohibit PROMOTING a site, NOT providing the source where one can sample the songs (and mostly music.com, happens to be the only jewish music site with song samples for all these albums, although Jewish jukebox and Eichler's do have some of them).68.196.178.227 (talk) 02:38, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

Maybe just one link to Mostly Music under Ext. links titled specifically to hear music clips. Having each mentioned of each album linked seems a bit like an ad move by MM for my taste. A Third Opinion:

1. Looking through the revision history of the article and the contributions of the editors, it is clear that everyone has made some fantastic improvements to this article, but at the same time it seems that some editors are only here to improve a very narrow range of articles. Please embrace everything that wikipedia has to offer and everything you can offer it by helping out on other articles and getting a feel for all the policies and guidelines.

2. From WP:SPAM: "Wikipedia spam also consists of external links to websites which primarily exist to sell goods or services". The tracks listed are short excerpts, and listed towards the bottom of the page after the selling opportunity has been made.

3. From WP:LINKS#Important_points_to_remember: "External links should not normally be used in the body of an article. Instead, include appropriate external links in an "External links" section at the end and/or in the appropriate location within an infobox or navbox." This is the first time I have seen external links in the main body of an article.

4. Similar to 1, WP:ELNO states that "one should avoid [...] Links to web pages that primarily exist to sell products or services". Mostlymusic clearly exists to sell music.

5. Normal wikipedia practice seems to be to link tracks or albums to their own page if they are sufficiently notable, not to a commercial site. I have looked at some wp pages for major Western artists and a few I had never previously heard of and can't find a single one with a link to a site such as mostlymusic.com, the iTunes page, last.fm, etc which speaks for the consensus in the approach of not linking to external commercial sites.

6. A list of links to a specific commerical website is also suggests a directory, and of course that is not what wikipedia is for - WP:NOTDIRECTORY.

7. I would like at this point to remove the links to mostlymusic as they are clearly in breach of wp policies, but I would like to see some responses from other editors first. It is a shame that Shwekey doesn't seem to have his own website that could be linked to.

Wikipedia does not need to provide samples of songs if there are not specific points about them in the article, which can only be understood by hearing a sample. Wikipedia does not exist to provide links to other sites for more information; it is not a link farm. Using the "external links" section is not a solution. I have seen other articles with links like this removed from the EL section recently, and while I understand some people (including me) may be sad to see them go, their removal is completely in line with Wikipedia policy. --A Knight Who Says Ni (talk) 00:36, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

Reliable Source?

In this edit a web address that I couldn't previously access was corrected, and now that I can see it I'm not sure it's suitable. My knowledge of Hebrew is zero, so I have to rely on a Google translation but the main page does not suggest this source is suitable. It has previously been queried whether Shwekey sung as a boy with the Miami Boys Choir (see above) and this potential self- or user-authored page doesn't seem suitable. while i don't know much about the specific site (Shwekey.goop.il, which i've always been able to access, and i don't know why you had to change it) its probably amutuer created, since goop.il is meant for free website building, but i don't see why you don't find the site suitable, Shwekey definately sang with Miami being as was a guest alumni on the 25th miami experiance. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Motty613 (talk • contribs) 01:20, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

There are sources to support the fact that he sung as a guest alumnus as an adult, but the assertion on the page is that he was also a member as a boy, which no independent, reliable source seems to be able to verify. Bigger digger (talk) 10:16, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

Stern Bar-Mitzvah

I'm not sure this should be here.

1. The controversy was about Stern and the NY penal system. Shwekey was an incidental performer.
2. Perhaps this should be rewritten to be "Shwekey performed at Tuvia Stern's Bar Mitzvah" - if the bar-mitzvah is deemed notable to get an article. More likely it should be moved to wikinews.
3. If there is any new information about Shwekey in any of the write ups, the information should be incorporated into the article and sourced. External links to the articles are not appropriate here

Update: After reading the linked articles, I found the only one about Shwekey was the New york post. For now I'm removing the others and will wait to hear what people say about the NYP article. Joe407 (talk) 12:54, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

@BangKettle: The first 3 sources are all primary sources which would obviously use his full name. The 4th source I don't know if it's primary or not but just 1 source isn't enough. Is there any source for this? I know his music, & hear people sometimes just use his last name, but he's not called just "Shwekey" as a name. Our former President was "Trump". Does that mean we should rename the article from "Donald Trump"? BangKettle (talk) 19:10, 15 March 2022 (UTC)
