This article is pathetic and useless. Contemporary usage is generally synonymous with the city. Should redirect to the city of the same name.J'onn J'onzz (talk) 15:06, 1 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Simi ValleySimi Valley (valley) – The city is the overwhelming WP:PRIMARYTOPIC for "Simi Valley", so "Simi Valley" should be a WP:PRIMARYREDIRECT to Simi Valley, California. While the city may have been named after the geographic valley, the city has now become what most people consider to be "Simi Valley". A simple survey of Special:WhatLinksHere/Simi Valley will show that a vast majority of links to Simi Valley are currently mistargeted, and people actually intended to link to the city. The valley is also not a useful WP:CONCEPTDAB as it is more or less coterminous with the city limits, and people generally think of the cultural and societal aspects of "Simi Valley" before before the geographic feature ever crosses their mind. • Support. According to Simi Valley, California, Simi Valley has a population of more than 100,000. --Comment by Selfie City (talk about my contributions) 21:57, 20 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose - While the city is perhaps more popular (WP:PRIMARYUSAGE), it is named for the geographical feature which gives that higher long-term significance. Normally, I'd say its WP:NOPRIMARY and we need a DAB page, but since the only proposed use for the primary title is as a redirect, I'd rather see it as WP:ONEOTHER and keep the status quo. -- Netoholic @ 08:45, 29 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The most frequently cited example of long-term significance trumping usage is Apple, which is the primary topic over Apple Inc. despite being less than a third as popular. But most of the time long-term significance agrees with primary usage. As Dohn joe explains below, it's very possible for a later entity to usurp long-term significance. The basic criterion of long-term significance tends to prefer common terms over specialized terms (as in the case of Apple), but here the valley is the specialized term, as no one would use "Simi Valley" to refer to anything other than the city unless they were talking about geology. -- King of ♠ 01:41, 30 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per nom. "Being named after" has nothing to do with greater long-term significance. See Boston vs. Boston, Lincolnshire. Mislinks is a good reason to move here. Dohn joe (talk) 19:46, 29 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support We have a clear primary in terms of usage, but the second aspect is a little tougher to determine. In this case, however, there is a pretty strong argument that both have significant long term notability, and the desired page choice of viewers is overwhelming enough that the proposed move would be best for readers.--Yaksar (let's chat) 02:17, 30 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
